Yes even female courier must not use your charm to make him stay in "that" spot. I once made a mistake and must replay the whole dlc.
Dean is pretty much a secondary villain in DM. When you break down what happened to Vera, it pretty much all comes down to Dean being an incredibly petty and monstrous person
Dude pretty much tortured Vera and tried to destroy Sinclair's life simply because he thought he was better than them.

I realized that on my first run. The story there to piece together if you take your time with it. So I never felt that bad about killing him. The only way to save him is to metagame and act out of character, and he's just not worth the effort.
But I really do enjoy that DLC quite a bit. The only part I didn't like is not being able to tell Veronica details she'd find very important after.
