Dead Money is so unenjoyable.
I for the life of me, do not see how they could do this. There are ghost people with health at 450. A deathclaw has 500. But they take all your weapons before you start. Am i seriously supposed to enjoy fighting something with a bear trap hand, or a police pistol? The security holograms not being able to take damage is nonsense. A literal invincible enemy.
Does anyone actually enjoy to collar? The backing in and out of areas trying to find where the radio or speaker is? Then after spending a bunch of time running in and out of range, you just happen to finally find it, and it's one with "a shield" so it can't be destroyed.
I am a very thorough player, I was almost level 49 when i started, and this is the first DLC i'm doing, and its just so far from the game it's not fun. I play on very hard, and the ghost people are just beyond infuriating to fight, between their insta boost jump and lunges at you, to extreme throwing accuracy.
I just wish I could leave the DLC and not finish, but they really felt the need to trap you in the DLC so you couldn't just set it and forget it?
I do not like it. Wanted to share my opinion.

pro tip:
Rad Child with 1st rank of radiation poisoning heals your character 2HP per second which means that you actually heal throughout the DLC including inside the fog.

Great little tip there.

Dead Money is complicated when it comes to actually enjoying it. The gameplay is always abysmal and way too difficult for where it's placed in the """timeline""" (literally the first DLC release-wise and canonically).

The story and hidden lore though? *mwah* It's amazingly written and ties well into some of the characters in the Mojave wasteland and the other DLC's (Veronica, Ulysses). Shamefully, I recommend just opening the console and enabling demigod mode (TDM) so you aren't an absolute walking death-machine. You'll still need to craft/buy/find ammo, but you won't take damage allowing you to legitimately explore the dead city in it's entirety. It's not a fix for the garbage play-style that's forced... but it helps the enjoyment factor. It's a depressing location, and when you're able to uncover and connect all the dots in the DLC it ends up leaving you feeling mixed about pretty much everything with the DLC. I actually used to skip Dead Money because of how indescribably dreadful playing it was, but I gave it a chance with god-mode enabled and loved the story.

Exploit for those 27 gold bars though? Makes the real pain worth it. Just make sure you get to Gun Runner's as fast as you get out of the Sierra Madre.
I managed to escape with all the gold bars, and I couldn't manage selling all them, traveling to a select few vendors that couldn't even cover one was so sad.
Since my first post here, I made another playthrough and try to get to Dead Money as soon as it is available (using DLC delayer).

Notification appear at 20+ level, grind a couple of level to get my repair 95 (stewei tweak cap my skill because I have too small penis to pump 10 INT and I can't have 0 Luck, but I'd like to emphasize my spectacular ass, my wife can attest to that) and 2 more level to pump science to hack.

It was a lot easier because now I understand the key to clear out *every* *single* *ghosties* without *a* *scracth*.

1. Dog.
2. Holorifle.

Dog can clean the entire outside level, just bring him everywhere to the place where you gotta put the entire scooby doo gang to do their job to triggering the gay (based) club building.

The first place you should visit to make it even easier is the building where you gotta brought Christine, pump the vent, and the Napalm Gas from Vietnam will go kapoof (in most places, where the goodies at).

HOW.

HOW?

HOW??!!!!

I dump my STR to 3, so my character cocc alone took 50% of the weight.

When the guys comes down to the vault/safe area, you can hide behind a pillar and sneak into the area he came from, if he detects you, the forcefield pops back up to block you. A save file beforehand and a little bit of patience.

Yeah just look up youtube videos on how to do it.
Spec into melee and it becomes a joke.

But if your a non combat character its a huge pain to just run around and die instantly to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ traps. Also it is super unrewarding, all the items are just worse than vanilla items.

I have to disagree.

Holorifle, blast the living shat out of the bear bulls cocc man at the nuke shack in the divide -- in 1 clip. 3 shots against the skirt wearing man at the opposite side of the dam.

I mean, I got 19 unarmed and 30 sneak, I literally just take dog walking around the entire area without doing anything.

During the escape from the tower, Holorifle practically melt every single ghosties until I made it into the Sierra Madre.

So yep, Holorifle alone, make the hassle kind of worth it.

This time I just left the gold where it was. To heavy to bother with, and money is no object at level 50 anyway :)
plus, even 1 gold bar is impossible to sell for full price. no trader in fnv has enough money for it.
also, there is one thing we can agree on regarding DM: the excellent ambience (specifically the sound design of the villa) obsidian ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nailed that ♥♥♥♥. its on par with fallout 1's ambient soundtrack in how spooky it is.

Quartermaster Barton, Gun Runners Vendertron and the Great Khan Armorer have the inventories for it though.

Gun runner robot does have enough stuff, mainly ammo I can buy and get full price for a block of gold, but resetting vendor inventory is no fun. The skyrim glitch spoiled me, with an autosave, hit vendor, and auto load.
I usually don't bother to steal the gold because when the time I finished the DLC my holorifle already have 1000+ OC cells and more than enough to blast Lanius back to his mom's ass.

But if you finished the dlc early in the game that would be great boost to inventory.
Dead money is the more black sheep of the DLC to some, others say the blacksheep is Honest hearts. I enjoy Dead Money due to its spiritual and psychological aspects of the story of what the locations and characters mean once you complete it.

With any DLC, it is best enjoyed with a high end character, or with specialized skill focuses with implants or perks. But Dead money is iffy as a extension of New Vegas because the core nature of the story "let go" only works if you survive it and know who you want to be. I only enjoyed it for wandering around a pristine old world daydream of what I assume is south American/TexMex designs with a hint of Arizona grace to them.

I love the haunting story and how the ending can impact the future ending of the main game, but Dead money is just a reminder to players about the need to let go. But I mostly played it for the recipes and items I would horde using carry weight mods. There is just something nostaglic about collecting coins and using them to buy materials from the vending machines.

Dead money is a story about a world that is dead but alive, I enjoy that because when your exploring the mojave and trying to level up while avoiding to much heat from factions....society gets boring. Dead money is great because its a stealth survival situation that you can control the pace a bit more. But its flawed. Very. Messy. Absolutely. But interesting.

The coins were the only aspect I enjoyed. As I completed the main game with a hair over 200k caps, it's safe to say I very much explore, grind, and loot to my hearts content. So to have a bunch of different items on the ground that I could in turn immediately walk to a machine and trade for something was nice. Especially for the weightless factor, New Vegas can become a bit of a bore trying to sell hordes of stuff with the extensive waiting for vendor coin to return. Stimpacks, ammo, the vending machine was an aspect I liked. The gameplay of the DLC is just garbage and does everything it can to prevent you from getting a true full exploration of the map for loot.
