Harland keeps dying?

So for this run I decided to try to spare both Harland and the Nightkins, but Harland keeps running into Nightkin on his way out and they just wipe the floor with him.

The trick that I found is to wait immediately after you finish the conversation with him so that he just teleports to the exit

Yeah, about that, I may or may not have finished the quest and saved after his death...

Well, at least he's with his GF now.
