So, King's Gambit is pretty dumb...
Alright, so I'm doing the Colonel Hsu option in King's Gambit where they send a bunch of NCR soldiers over to offer the King more power and supplies in-exchange for peace. King accepts, but Pacer throws a fit and starts a fight.

What's dumb is that the King says, "Pacer, if you do this, I won't back you." Pacer procedes to do the thing, becoming hostile, and even SHOOTING AT THE KING AND OTHER KINGS. What makes this ridiculous is if you the player or your companions fight back against Pacer after he goes rogue, YOU LOSE FREESIDE REP AND THE KING ALONG WITH THE OTHER KINGS TURN HOSTILE TOO, screwing up the whole quest.

That HAS to be a bug, right? Or just oversight from the Devs? Because that doesn't make any sense. Especially when you go back to Crocker and tell him that the King's dead, and he hits you with the whole, "You ruined years of NCR diplomacy!...by picking the diplomatic option." The King and his kings are literally fighting against Pacer and his kings, but if you try to help the King, he turns hostile? So you're just supposed to sit there? That can't be as intended.

There is a cut option ot talk Pacer down, but since it is cut that is how that quest goes down, don't do anything and the the NCR handle the problem.

Hold on! It gets dumber! I just tried the quest again, and after Pacer's speech, there's literally a quest objective that says, "Stop Pacer from ruining the deal between the Kings and NCR." So the game's even telling you to get involved! Yeah, this is a bug. Or more accurately an oversight, the Freeside faction allegiance or w/e should've been dropped from Pacer and his men when they try to pull their coup. Damn it, New Vegas.

You lose Freeside rep mostly cause locals dislike the NCR in general. Also, sending NCR soldiers to Freeside may not be the wisest option, given their track record in the area.
Edit: There are mods that implement the truce solution back in game.

That doesn't make any sense though, since you don't lose the Freeside rep if you do nothing during the shootout and the quest works as it should. The loss of freeside rep only happens because you shot a REVOLTING Pacer, not from the choice of making a deal between the NCR and Kings.

It's not cut, you can talk NCR down and stop hostilities between them and pacer if you do the side mission for the NCR chick in the prior mission when you're sent to find out about the NCR presence in freeside.

Pacer then goes back to the king with his tail between his legs.

You're thinking of GI Blues, a different quest.

Lol this does nothing besides say what I've already said. It's already been established that doing nothing during the shootout causes the quest to continue as intended. I'm saying that doesn't make any sense. Thanks for contributing nothing.

The diplomatic option was never cut, despite what some people are claiming. All you need to do is to choose the King's favor as your reward for completing "G.I Blues", then don't invoke it until you're talking to the King during 'King's Gambit". If you invoke it then, the King will tell his men to stand down peacefully, and they'll obey him.

The option to talk down Pacer from attacking was cut, using the Kings favor is independent from that.
