Whats the best rifle with a scope?
Hi, I was wondering what you think about the weapons that allow you to zoom in with a scope. Do you think the Marksman Carbine is better or worse than the Sniper Rifle and why/why not. Or do you use a different rifle yourself, and if so why?

The sniper rifle does alot more damage than the marksman rifle, however the ammo is also rarer. Also, the Sniper rifle does 3,5 X zoom, and the Marksman rifle 2,8 X zoom. Marksman rifle also carries more rounds in a mag. so both weapons have ups and downs. I highly reccomend to get the Goby camping scout rifle. Its a unique version of the standard sniper rifle. However if you wanna use the marksman rifle i reccomend you get the All American, a really strong unique marksman rifle.

Depends on the circumstance. For general use the All American marksman carbine and scoped laser rifle is king (depending on whether you're going guns or energy weapons), but if you're wanting to take out enemies from a distance (particularly the tougher ones) the the Anti-Mat rifle and Unique Gauss Rifle reign supreme (again, depending on whether you're guns or energy weapons).

the Gauss rifle is the overall best weapon in the game if you have all the matching character stats (High Intelligence + High Energy weapons). It has alot of downsides though, but the overall damage is unbeatable.
In terms of overall weapons stats, The All-American Marksman carbine is the most versatile. On top of its base and critical hit damage of 26, it has a low ap cos of 13 in V.A.T.S., has a zoom on par with sniper rifles and fires faster than any single shot rifle in the game with precision provided you max out your guns skill. (in which case, the standard sniper rifle and its 2 variants The Gobi Campaign sniper rifle and Christines COS silencer rifle reign supreme since they only have a guns requirement of 75 instead of 100)

Thanks. I have too many weapons. I think ill store the sniper rifle and use it later. I have the Tesla Cannon and Incinerator that I can use on long distance. I might also drop the Trail Carbine or the Plasma rifle. I like to have room for loot :D

You mentioned guns requirement, I thought it was only a Strength requrement (like fallout 2). what is the negative of not meeting the guns requirement?

I took a screenshot of my weapons and skills (click to zoom/fullscreen) https://imgur.com/rFHDW2t

Well theres no neccisairy skills you need for weapons. Lower skill just makes the weapon worse. But after i saw your screenshot i can tell you youre in the clear. The higher your skill with weapon types the better they become. You have almost max (100) Guns and energy weapons, so you can use the tesla cannon, gauss rifle, trail carbine, marksman rifle, anything you want. If you for instance only had high guns and like 15/100 energy weapons skill they would be virtually useless.

Gobi Campaign Sniper Rifle does the most dps for any Rifle in the base game. its found at the Snipers Nest by Cottonwood Cove in a gun case with a very hard lock.

Im pretty sure its not better than the gauss rifle tough

People like to argue which is better

Christine's CoS silencer rifle DPA 62 DPS 99.6 DPS 1.61
Gobi Campaign scout rifle DPA 48 DPS 102.9 DPS 2.14
YCS/186¹ ²(Gauss rifle) DPA 140 DPS 52.5 DPS 3

The first 2 are sniper rifles and doesn't take up most of your screen plus use normal amounts of ammo. The last is huge and uses 5 energy per shot.

Basicly do you want to use sniper rifle or heavy energy rifle?

I don't like the marksman carbine because 5.56 AP is really inconvenient to get, and most of the stuff that actually poses a threat use DT.
Kimmaz Feb 2, 2021 @ 9:38am
Regarding damage per shot, the Heavy Incinerator has 50 and the marksman carbine has 30. but I feel like the marksman carbine does more damage per shot anyhow. Its a bit odd, is the "burning damage" over time included in the damage number for the Heavy Incinerator? I use both weapons.

It helps with reducing the weapon sway with most rifles, same applies to energy weapons

You don't necessarily need AP rounds since not every enemy has a DT of 15+. I've fought many enemies with the All-American without AP rounds, and the only time I used them were for the rare encounters you have with deathclaws. But yes AP rounds are very inconvenient to obtain since not many get sold at once.

I found a Scope for the Trail Carbine. Its a bit different but it has a better damage number than the sniper rifle. Ill try it out a bit with a scope. one advantage is that its possible to remove the scope when you want iron sights.
