XNVSE is a fork of NVSE maintained by a group of modders that fixes some bugs and improves performance.

NVSE is no longer being maintained by the original creators, so it will continue to become more outdated as XNVSE improves.

Use XNVSE.

You should use xNVSE because it's the currently mantained version, there is no reason to keep using NVSE and you'll probably have problems if you're using it (some mods already require xNVSE instead of NVSE)

Can I replace the Nvse in my new vegas folder with this one or will I have to delete the old nvse files manually?

oh I want to add I use vortex and I heard that vortex can add nvse on the mod manager if I don't have it. should I do that instead or just go the the site and manually install it there directly?

XNVSE is just NVSE after it got abandoned by the original devs and picked up by new ones.

It'd probably help to remove old NVSE first by the files names are all the same so just doing the usual drag and drop should overwrite all the old files.

Loaded XNVSE....now the mods want me to login to download??
Is there a login free option to make the game work again?

(Accounts are free and so are downloads) You need to at least log into the site if download is too big. You can try logging into nexus account through whatever mod manager your using. (Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex) I suggest comparing video tutorials before choosing which.
(Also mod managers frequently lose logins so logging on nexus and usng your browser may be more reliable, then after that drag and drop to move them into your mod manager. )

(Also download speeds are limited between all downloads on nexus so dont download too many large mods at once since slow enough download = higher chance of corruption in my experience.)
On bright side its so slow you can even play online games and likely stream at same time and never encounter slowdowns.

Any mod using DLL has to be at least partially installed manually. ENB, reshade, Script extenders etc. This does not apply to PLUGINS for script extender (unless it has .dll's). Make sure the old NVSE doesnt have old left over .dll files because version to version sometimes script extenders have the dll files renamed. This may or may not have harmful effects I really dont know. They would likely be same name with different numbers or something.

And what about the mods I have in my game meant for anti crash and stutter. Will those be affected by the xnvse?

The stutter, crash, and few other things seem related. Try disabling vsync in the options, and set a frame rate limit of 64 fps on the game.
here's how you can.
https://itigic.com/limit-fps-when-playing-games-windows-10/
(same for 7)
if you do have ten, find your FalloutNV.exe
in \steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas
right click it > properties > compatibility
set to "windows 7"

I've found setting a resolution of 1360 x 786 helped too.

Well considering the Anti-Crash requires NVSE I'd say that having it would be a good thing.
Same with NVTF (which I hope is what you are referring to in regards to fixing 'stutter' and not NVSR which causes crashes).

xNVSE is literally just an updated NVSE, anything that requires regular NVSE will work with xNVSE and anything requiring xNVSE will not work with regular NVSE.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
