Accidentally killed Deputy Beagle, what consequences does this have?
Hey guys, I just got this game and I accidentally killed Deputy Beagle in Primm thinking he was an escaped convict as well. I actually thought he was meant to spawn dead like some npcs in FO4, but I looked it up and u h h h... yeah... My question is what consequences does this have? Will it lower my reputation, give me bad karma or anything like that? I'd like my character to be good so idk. Please keep it spoilerfree thanks :D

You'll be locked out of a certain outcome of a certain minor quest, but otherwise there's no consequences. I believe you lose a bit of karma too as Beagle is a good character, but karma is almost completely irrelevant anyways.

SPOILERS: Beagle usually tells you that Primm is now without a sheriff. (He's too much of a coward to put himself up.) so you get to select one. Either leave the town without one, re-program Primm Slim. (Which will result in Primm being somewhat safe though due to his speed many criminals get away.) Myers from the NCRCF, a former sheriff. (This will result in most if not all criminals being punished, however Myers has his own form of swift justice. Nash will also be selling his goods at prices comparable to highway robbery.)
Or helping the NCR take the town. (This will result in NCR supplies aiding the town in general, however the Primm residents, now NCR citizens, will have to pay extortionate taxes and the town will be placed under marshal law, Nash will now be selling more weapons but sadly his prices increase by 25%, likely due to aforementioned taxes.) I personally usually go for Myers

Deputy Beagle is meant to give you some clue about the guy who shot you. If you helped him out alive he will tell you the info. But if you get him killed, you can still loot his body for the info too.

If he alive, He can open a side quest to let you go find a new mayor for the town and advice about the person he has in mind. After you completed this quest you can come visit him and he will tell you how's the town changed by your decision.

Meyer's is the best choice for Sheriff btw, not ONLY does it bring a maximum discount with Nash but if fits the Role. He's a lawman in a wasteland, a place where there is NO LAW, just discretion. And Meyer's is discrete. You deal with raiders and terrorists one way, counter-terrorism. Let them know by example, they respect the lives of others or ... they die, no mercy, no exceptions. No one is going to feel remorseful nor sorry for them afterwards.

I went with the NCR.
Plus, for there to be a lawman, there has to be rules, boundaries, all of those that meyers have crossed. He is no longer fit to serve.

But there is no LAW, the law ONLY matters when the people respect it, he's protecting the town from bandits, they don't care, they just look for easy or soft targets to prey upon. Meyers knows this, he's not afraid. Meyers is the kind of guy that would slit another man's throat just so the rest will trust and believe that he will kill them if they attempt anything.

NCR procedure is just that, procedure, but they are NO different than Meyers, even if they BELIEVE they are something special because they go by PROCEDURES! There is no time no need for law here, it's no man's land. Bandits and predators.

There is law, the laws of the United States of America, that still applies to the land. Also, general laws like dont steal or kill, which, no surprise, is still a thing in the wasteland.

Like It or not, we still live in a society and Meyers literal cutthroat techniques dont work in society, which is why he was sent to jail in the first place.

No, there is NO law, because the people don't care, the law only matters when the people care, Bandits don't care. So the best example becomes be civil and if you can't be civil, stay the ♥♥♥♥ out. If caught disrespecting these simple rules ... you die. It's that simple, no need for procedures and elaborate policies just to feel like they're righteous or the heroes. You're dealing with too many bandits and junkies. It's NO MAN'S LAND. The killing fields are out there, the town is off limits.

If you would like to be more realistic about it, the TRUE flaw is ... Meyers is ONE man with NO support, the NCR is a regiment if not multiple. The fact that they would have so many men standing guard SHOULD scare off anyone who would like to loot or plunder the town. They wouldn't need to do anything harsh since their example is presenting a fight that couldn't be won. But they are no different than Meyers, they just have the luxuries that come with the strength in numbers and the more P.C image that comes along with it.

But really, being that the NCR is NO different than Meyers and he comes with a HUGE discount on trade ...
