will Rex go away if i complete Nothin' But a Hound Dog?

by this I mean will it not be possible to have two companions by your side? I've been travelling with both Cass and Rex and since my Charisma is 9 they are a bit busted.
I'm not sure if my Charisma being 9 actually factors alot into my companions though since everyone calls it a useless stat (I maxed it for character-reasons, not min-maxing. my build is so horrible though.)

all I need to do to complete the quest now is to just go to Jacobstown but I'm afraid if I complete the quest Rex will not be able to travel with me and Cass anymore and I would have to ditch Cass for Rex vice versa.

yeah after seeing the post i just realized the first two paragraphs are what actually relates to the title and the rest is just me going way offtopic and just general questions about the game and loving legion itself.

Ok I read the first paragraph so to answer it charisma has nothing to do with companion slots. You get 2 max no matter what, 1 human and 1 non-human (ed-e or rex).

ah when I included charisma in there I was actually wondering if my Charisma being 9 is making my two companions busted (in terms of killing enemies) because i heard something about a Nerve stat (boosts DMG and DT of a companion by 5%) that the companions have and that the Nerve stat goes up with each point put into Charisma. i didn't know that you can actually have two companions; one human and one non-human though. i thought Rex being able to travel with me when Cass is already with me was just a quest thing that goes away once you complete his quest.

High charisma buffs companions. It's all the stat's good for, but since most of them are so overpowered even without buffs, and can't die outside of hardcore, going for charisma is a bit of a waste.

I got Charisma for dialogue reasons and for my character reasons type of thing, but after a bit of hours I quickly realized why people find Charisma useless. It doesn't even really factor into any dialogue except that it gives a bit of points into Barter and Speech which you can easily max out one or both of these with 1 Charisma. There are also Charisma perks (i think only Black Widow and Cherchez La Femme which I have only seen appear in dialogue 3 times (they give damage bonuses too but I took them both not caring about it). Next run I guess I know what stat I won't invest into.
