The dumbest, most backstabbable character in game
Let me just preface this by saying, Caesar may be smart but he can do some really f'king stupid things. Take, for example, his first approach to Courier. What do you do to the guy who's killed one of your top generals and helped overrun a key outpost? Why, you forgive him of all of his crimes against your Legion and send him into a bunker you know nothing about where he can either destroy the toys of a corporate autocrat he's already proven willing to work for or set up a massive time bomb that can turn your main camp into a Roman Candle when said corporate autocrat gives the order. And then you don't even confirm that he's done what you want him to do, you just assume that he's destroyed said toys when you hear a loud rumbling from the bunker below.

With that out of the way, I would like to hear some of the other people here share their experiences of the dumbest characters they've ever backstabbed in game.

I would argue that being dumb and making a bad choice is just normal, but being smart and still falling for it is truly stupid, it wasn't your ignorance that let you get stabbed in the back at that point. Arcade was aware the situation was shady, and vocal about his distrust of it, and still chooses to walk right into it because you tell him to trust you despite him actively telling you that he doesn't trust anyone easily.

Caesar is anything but dumb. He is over confident, arrogant and think of the Courier as only a tool to help him achieve his objectives. He KNOWS the Courier wouldn't dare to betray him thanks to the traits above which gives him a tunnel vision about the, inevitable, outcome: Victory.

You know who is exactly like this, too? Kimball. House. And Eden on 3.

Are all of them dumb, too?

Caesar's intelligence stat is lower than Fantastic. Snuffles the mole rat has higher intelligence than Caesar.

Kimball does have a higher INT. House has more than double (Caesar is 4 INT, Kimball is 5 and House is 10).

Eden doesn't have stats listed in-game since he's not a real NPC. Autumn does have a 5, meaning even he is technically smarter than Caesar.

Stats-wise, Caesar is indeed one of the dumbest protagonists you'll ever run across. Even Lanius has a 6 for goodness sake.

Stats don't really matter for NPC's.
Also, I blame Edward's tumor for his lowered intelligence.

Lanius has a higher intelligence stat, yet if Caesar dies and you complete Veni, Vidi, Vici after getting help from the remnants, Lanius pursues the remnants after they retreat and he loses a lot of his men, Caesar does not.

Honestly, there's a solid reason a lot of RPG systems separate Wisdom and Intelligence.

Caesar was clearly, just from conversation, wiser than Lanius.

Also a high IQ doesn't mean everything.
It just means you have a (much) easier time learning and thinking.

Stats almost means nothing honestly for NPC. Ulysses is maxed in all his stats. Yet that dude is quite retarded in taking conclusion lmao

There is a high incidence of Dunning-Kruger among autocrats.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I'm gonna refer OP to Genghis Khan who spared the life of the man who killed his horse, Jebe. He became one of the most loyal and capable of Genghis' commanders. Sure letting the courier go in there alone without knowing what he will decide to do is not the smartest decision though.

Ah, yes, the "The main character is the only person that's right" trope.

I love New Vegas but I can't deny that it often relies on NPCs holding the idiot ball some times.

Also, "the main character needs to be able to join every ending" clause.

lol reading this is cringe.

"Caesar isnt dumb. oh he has the lowest stats? that doesnt mean hes dumb"

ok then, im sure your daddy is pleased you blindly protect him.

Caesar is beyond retarded.
Bases his entire military structure on Roman militaries but alters it to fit his needs whenever hes contradicted.
building an empire on RAPE and SLAVERY and expecting not to make more enemies then they can fight.
The Legion is only badass if the Courier joins. Otherwise they are a barbaric tribe fueding with the NCR.
He let the courier leave with the one thing that could conquor the mohave. He could have easily made the courier his ♥♥♥♥♥ but gives the courier everythinf and more even at vilified status.
