Recommended mods for a first play through?
So I recently decided to finally install mods for Fallout NV. Currently I only have the mods that fix with the games stability problems, but I’ve definitely been looking at mods that would help improve the gameplay, but not stray too far from the ‘vanilla’ experience.

Basically, I want to know which mods you all would consider to be the best to have for a first full play through of the game.

I’m interested to hear your suggestions!

i would say EVE it's a package that add a lot of visual improvement on the base model for guns and character withtout the hassle of searching each pack and check their compatibility

Personally, I prefer some sort of inventory organizer along with the lore friendly patches. I also prefer some visual stuff like the flora overhaul and better textures as well as IMPACT, EVE, and EXE. You might also be interested in a fix to the Vanilla UI so there's no text overflow. A few small mods here and there also go a long way, like filling empty bottles with water.

I'm also a fan of WMX, or Weapon Mods Expanded. It adds a good number of mods and allows you to install common variant mods to unique weapons like Paciencia and The Q35 Matter Modulator.

You may also be interested in a body mod or two, maybe some facial updates, but that's not my thing really.

Really the best way to play close to vanilla is to just update the stuff that's already there, maybe "fix" a few things along the way. Don't bother with overhauls and new weapons or armor.

For a first playthrough I'd recommend going light, keep gameplay changing ones until a second run.

For a first run I'd say use:

Stability/ bugfixe mod so the game isn't a crashy buggy mess.
NVSE: http://www.nvse.silverlock.org
New Vegas 4GB: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62552
JIP: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58277
Johnny Guitar: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66927
One Tweak: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/59266
NVAC: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635
NVTF: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66537
Unofficial Patch NVSE: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/65412
YUP: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51664
Stewie Tweaks: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66347

Ones that make the game look better.
NMC's textures: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43135
Weapon Retexture Project: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/38285
Character Expansions Revised: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/64862
Clarity: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62481

Distributes items through the levelled lists Obsidian was either too lazy or too strapped for time to do themselves so that you'll actually see enemies using these items and find them as loot instead of only being able to obtain them from a select few vendors:
DLC Weapon Integration: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/47880
Mojave Arsenal: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62941

I’ll definitely check these mods out! Seems like they’ll be great to fix the game up!

I’ll take note if these ones for sure!

I will just say WMX, WME and EVE are all incompatible with WMIM (Requirement for Weapon Retexure Project). WMIM fixes a bunch of issues with the weapon meshes and makes it so weapons will actually shoot where they're supposed to as well as being a hard requirement for WRP, I wouldn't recommend using any of those three mods for this reason alone as WMIM does a lot more for you than they will it's just more subtle about it.

This for sake of immersion lets you make the mojave great again. :VBCOOL:

I personally recommend the Just[www.nexusmods.com] mods to modernize some of the gameplay mechanics. The don't tend to have as many compatibility issues as Project Nevada, while adding some of the same modern features.

I'd also add for retextures -

NMC (already mentioned)
Ojo Bueno
MG's Neat Clutter

I recommend installing and overwriting in that order.

Spice of Life is also a nice unobtrusive way to add some more clothing variety.

I've heard a lot of good things relating to the Just Mods. I might install some of them just for QoL purposes

They are really nice. The B42 mods have some nice effects as well in terms of QoL.

Haven’t heard much about B42. Looks good from what I’ve seen

follow the viva new vegas guide.

though if you could only install 1 mod that would be jsawyers mod, thats the way the game was intended to be played.
Caboose Jan 12, 2021 @ 12:58am
might be a matter of taste since you want vanilla, but i put a fallout 4 loot mod in, so i don't spend 2 min after each fight to get all the items from the bodies
