Resolution stuck in Letterbox Fix (Nvidia)
I found some older posts on here mentioning an issue where the game got stuck in a letterboxed resolution (black bars on top and bottom) even in widescreen. This caused all kinds of warping, frustrating mouse controls, etc... and is just generally unpleasant to play a game that is extra stretched on widescreen. I ran into this issue and did not find much in the way of help, but I did figure out a fix for it that might help someone else running into this issue.

I tried changing the game resolution with the New Vegas launcher, BethINI, and manually editing .INI files with absolutely no change. I am running the game modded, launching NVSE from MO2, but it sounds like there are folks out there having this issue even running the game vanilla, so hopefully this helps you.

I am running Windows 10, Ryzen 5 3600X, RTX 2070, so YMMV

- Go to Nvidia Control Panel (not GeForce experience)

- On left panel, go to Display > Adjust Desktop Size and Position

- Now, I do not know if any of the settings on the scaling tab matter, as I fiddled with them for a while and they did not change anything on their own, but they may be helping the next step. I didn't want to undo anything as I spent an hour or two trying to figure this out and FO:NV is such a taped-together mess that I was afraid to touch anything once I had it working. Settings that worked for me were to select the "Full Screen" scaling mode and check the box for "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs". Set your resolution accordingly.

- The settings that finally worked for me were under the "Size" tab. Check the box marked "Enable Desktop Resizing" and then click "apply" on the bottom right of the window.

- I assume that this fix will only work if you have your game resolution set to match what's in the Nvidia control panel. It might not matter, but then again there might be some scaling weirdness if you try this with the game resolution set to something in a different aspect ratio.

Of course, this will only help people running on an Nvidia GPU, but if you are running into similar issues on an AMD card then you might check and see if there are similar settings in the Radeon control panel to play with. If there IS a similar fix in the Radeon settings, I would love it if someone would reply with those steps so that we can have this fix documented in one convenient spot ;)

Hope this helps someone avoid the frustration and lost play time I went through!
