The List of Main Story Bosses
The List of Bosses

I'm trying to make a chronological list of all Fallout: New Vegas bosses of the main story. Feel free to participate!

1) Joe Cobb

A leader of the Powder Gangers, and basically the very first boss of the game, who's fought at the entrance of Goodsprings. He has a .357 Magnum revolver and wears a body armor.

2) The Renegade Powder Ganger Leader

Fought inside an abandoned building in Primm. He and his men have taken Deputy Beagle hostage. He carries a flamethrower.

3) Eddie

The overall leader of the Powder Gangers occupying the New California Republic Correctional Facility. He has a laser pistol as well as a body armor, and is protected by Scrambler (his second-in-command, who can be considered a mini-boss) as well as his bodyguards, three special Powder Gangers. Fought in the warden's office, on the top floor of the NCRCF main building.

4) Vulpes Inculta

A high-ranking member (he leads the frumentarii, spies, basically) of Caesar's Legion. Fought during the second (or, if you haven't saved the two Powder Gangers in the Legion raid camp before, first) encounter with Caesar's Legion, at the entrance of Nipton City Hall. He's armed with a Ripper, a powerful melee weapon.

5) Jessup

A Great Khan leader, and one of Benny's former accomplices. He is seen next to him at the beginning of the game, when the Courier gets shot in the head. He is fought later on in the story, in the Boulder City ruins' Great Khan hideout. He carries a sawed-off shotgun and a switchblade, as well as a note which reveals Benny's location to the player.

Benny

The secondary antagonist of Fallout: New Vegas, and the man who shot the Courier at the beginning of the game. His main goal is to take over New Vegas, which is controlled by Mr. House. He is confronted by the player at The Tops Casino, and carries a special 9mm pistol.

?) Legate Lanius

The final boss of Fallout: New Vegas. He is the second-in-command (or the leader, depending on the player's actions) of Caesar's Legion. He carries his special weapon, an unique sword named the Blade of the East, and is dressed in full armor.

Honestly New Vegas doesn't really have any bosses. After all, you can side with all these characters, or just avoid them in general.

I'd say that a lot of them are potential bosses, as many are not required to be killed in order to progress through the story.

You forgot the obvious, Benny. I'd probably also consider house, Ceasar and general Oliver as bosses. Dealing with them the first time is potentially a boss encounter (either you side with them or say no and become their enemy) and is basically a make or break moment with their faction.

Other main quest bosses would be mother pearl, elder MacNamara/elder Hardin, Papa Khan, Nero and big Sal, Mortimer and Marjorie.

Dude, how can you forget the secret end-game boss: No-Bark Noonan?

I do have Benny in mind, I know he's the secondary antagonist and a boss, but I'm trying to gather as much information as possible regarding him (as he is quite a complex character mainly due to his strong involvement in the story) and earlier bosses I might have missed before adding that rat to the list (which I haven't finished yet, hence the "?)" for Lanius).

I killed him during the optional boss fight in The Tops Casino; therefore, I don't know what happens if the player "lets" him escape. Doesn't he get captured by Caesar's Legion right afterward?

As for the other ones you've mentioned in your second comment, save Mortimer, I didn't know any of them until now! I'm totally not done with the main story yet.

By the way, do you consider Scrambler a mini-boss?

It's depends on which side you going to take. Main quest boss, basically are the enemy that you must defeat or get through to end the game so if it not that Lagate, it'd be that NCR general.

Joe Cob and Doggo guy and others are just a mini side quest bosses that the courier can run pass them, not interest to end the quest. Benny is a main quest mid boss because player cannot avoid him to open the 2nd half of the game.

Players: "New Vegas is so great! There is so much different choices you could choose at your own desire! A true RPG masterpiece!"

Also players: *Literally do the exact same thing that they did in their last playthrough; help Goodsprings, kill Vulpes Inculta on sight, recruit Craig Boone, start killing The Legion NPCs left right and center*

Actually I let Vulpes live now...until I meet him in New Vegas later. By letting him live you can get an extra quest done for completionism and that sweet xp, then murder him later when he comes to invite you to the Fort.

Huh?
Where has anybody hinted at that being the case?

I legit played this game several times, slightly differently, all ending with NCR. I eventually did a playthrough with House, then Yes Man... it was only years later, when I came back with a more mature perspective, that I realized the Legion was the best hope for the Mojave all along.

This entire post discusses about "the bosses of the main story", as if all the listed characters are supposed to be the one that you should be fighting against. One can easily assume that such conclusion is based upon playing the game as in same(or similiar), fixed route again and again over the various playthrough sessions.

All listed characters above except the escaped convict leader can be sided with, depending on the choices that the players have made, and yet, OP pressumed that the players would naturally do the opposite and be hostile towards them instead. This is the sign that the vast majority of players will just do the same thing they did in their last playthrough.

EDIT: And we already have two people who claim that they've made a different choices recently, indicating that before such occasions, they've basically done the same playthroughs in a way I have described.

Yeah, but, in my humble opinion, the path in which Caesar and Legate Lanius are the main antagonists (and also in which you defeat all bosses) is the canon one. Storywise, I can't imagine the Courier being an evil mercenary. I honestly think he's meant to be a hero. Then again, that's just my opinion!
