Fallout New Vegas Old World Blues Meaning(My Opinion) SPOILER!
After finishing the Old World Blues DLC I began to search the "meaning" behind and was surprised by the answers or theories. While some are logical I feel like others were not taken into account for. Before I get into my discussion I would like to point out that during the play through I had a 100 speech skill and with the help of chems was able to boost my S.P.E.C.I.A.L. to be able to hit most if not all dialogue requirements as well as explored the entire map and its content through terminals and notebooks. That being said, when you arrive your heart, spine, and brain have been removed but the Scientific brains are curious as to why you still have human function and are not like the rest of the lobodomites. They all talk through Dr. Klein, sharing a host body but have robotic bodies themselves as well as brains. Klein then (after an eternity of an intro) tells you 3 parts he needs to get into the forbidden zone. Once acquired and talking with all the scientists you feel the presence of a loss of emotion for the pursuit of science, in the form of taking ANY and ALL steps to further their research against the Chinese as well the Americans (mentioned later) through their technologies being accepted by Vault Tec. Once talking to these brains in the think tank you can push past the science exterior and gain very small but EXTREMELY important detail about their interior, via motives for their work and personalities. Each having a unique but broken aspect about themselves(hence being machines which tend to break down after a certain point of its usefulness or being productive) but are eerily connected to Dr. Klein. When you meet Dr. Mobius and decide to talk instead of just obliterate him you learn he is not the evil Dr. that Dr. Klein explains him to be. He in turn tells you that he was scared of the other brains and felt they were doing more harm than good and needed to be contained in an infinite loop to keep them distracted from leaving The Big MT as their work was more destructive than constructive. Now this is where it gets tricky and I have a 2 scenarios of what I think happened based upon these facts above.

1.(Dr. Mobius is the collective brains split by a lobotomy) The player, is not whole. Broken away from its original self and replaced with robotic organs on a quest to find their original, just as all the minds are split and have a hard time remembering their own when once human(either before losing their morals or becoming the robotic brains we see). Mobius is so forgetful of whats going on because he is the collective of all the brains but is scattered from the result of a lobotomy. Forever stuck in a loop of research in a world of his own, understanding that his mind is creating weapons and creations of devastation during the war but is still in pursuit as he is no longer attached to the world he once lived in. Upon entering the forbidden zone you see his mad theories scribbled all over the floor of his chambers, which is a copy of the chambers in the think tank. Unable to use the full function of his brain, is always stuck in Big MT( the big empty). The player becomes his realization that he is no longer in control. Parts of him are missing and is unable to grasp the meanings of his theories as he forgets them as soon as he comes up with them or even writes them down. The player could have always left in theory, as your brain just awaits you after you finish talking with Mobius. The Think tank wants mobius dead as that is essentially the function of his brain post his surgery. Mobius can explain that he is just terrorizing the other brains to keep them from escaping the Big MT, the reason behind his lobotomy. His ideas were too far out for the world, therefore they took away his most powerful asset, his ability to clearly think(wether it was by the government or by his colleagues). Now split he is stuck in his own creation, never able to leave while still having the understanding of his thoughts in fragments beyond his comprehension and unable to spread it to the wasteland that we start the game in. The view is inside the head of a mad scientist lobotomized fantasizing of escaping the void and going to the light of a world he once knew existed but never will be able to.

2.( Dr Klein is Dr. Mobius and lobotomized his colleagues) In the think tank, the brains collectively decide that Dr. Klein knows more than they do and is the brain behind the operation. 3 and 1 less have left Big MT. 2 escaped while 1 Dr. Klein lets out but somehow has no memory in his database of what information he had told that individual and states that he never makes any errors(lie). When human, Dr. Klein realizes the horror of what him and his team have created. Being too good to kill his colleagues, he takes away their ability to think and keeps them in the Big MT(big empty). The player once realizes this when confronting Dr. Mobius, who is none other than Dr. Klein himself. All the brains in the think tank cling to Dr. Kleins theories and research as they no longer understand they don't have their brain functions and are all in an endless loop of the research they were once doing. The theories scratched into Dr. Mobius's lair are the thoughts of his former colleagues, unable the be interpreted or prove useful. Klein and Mobius are one but are split, like his personality after he had essentially wiped out his teams ability to be of any use to the military. The idea of klein remains with the other "brains" while Mobius(Klein after dismantling his team) is by himself surrounded by the work him and his team once did. Either he kills himself after what he had done in disgust to his former colleagues and or friends, and or leaves the brains to remain in the Big MT struggling to grasp that what Klein/Mobius did(the colleagues internal struggle) as they are falsely held by fear to stay in the tank and never meet Mobius, the man behind the curtain. Klein/Mobius believes he has solved the problem by dismantling the team forgets one important detail, he never destroyed their research logs. All that information was seized by the government and implemented into vault tec. The experiments on americans that Klein/Mobius tried to destroy had inevitably been used on his own country through the various vault systems, each being a part of his teams discoveries. That being said, we all know Vault Tec tries to do good but is the center of the evil so to speak in the fallout games. He is stuck in his own loop of heaven/hell seeing his teams work being used endlessly as the world tries to survive the apocalyptic world that he had tried to once destroy.

Just some thought on the matter. I really hope to get some more brains in this think tank because I would be intrigued to see more theories as this DLC has been around for quite some time and is a really good Mind twist as there are a lot of possibilities. Let me know if you agree or disagree or even have another theory on it. Thanks for the read if you made it this far! Good vibes to the community as I really love this game and its concepts as well. Peace and good vibes fellow vault dwellers!

is there a question?

the Player functions without his brain because he is operated by the PLAYER, not his brain which frustrates his brain.

the Various doctors became think tank robots upon death which I believe was natural hundreds of years ago.

Mobius at some point decided they were dangerous and hacked their code to keep them trapped in the think tank while keeping them busy with various distractions.

He did this while he was still part of the think tank, while leaving.

A question to what?

After talking to your brain it likes the confines it is in compared to the wasteland until the player can convince it otherwise. The scientists have never left Big MT as their homes are in higgs village. They have no concept of the Mojave so in theory they have been trapped the whole time in Big MT. Maybe my theory is outside the box but in my head makes sense. Sometimes whats told has a underlying statement. Just because information is presented doesn't mean it is the truth or the whole truth or even the whole story. Just enough to get people theorizing about it. I appreciate your comment Red255
