Loosing items out of my inventory
I was trying to complete a quest for the BoS to find the Hepa filters and Reverse Pulse thingy.
I just finished killing Motor Runner and collected the Rev. Pulse out of the cabinet and was outside going back the slow way to the BoS bunker and killing any fiends I could find on the way.
I came across a couple of them and killed them and looted their bodies. I also found in their little camp a box with grass growing out of it. I clicked on it and the text for the information was red which indicated I was stealing it. It said it was some kind of custom weapon parts worth 4000 plus caps, so I snapped it up. I was pretty low in caps so I couldn't wait to sell it. I fast travelled to the Gun Runners and couldn't find it any where in my inventory. I also noticed that the Rev. Pulse thingy was not there either. I decided to go back to the vault and look in the cabinet again just in case I hadn't transferred it to my inventory properly. The cabinet was empty so now I'm out the 4000 plus caps and the Reverse Pulse thingy, I still have the Hepa filters though.
Is this some kind of a glitch that crops up once in a while. When I went to the Elder at the BoS bunker I figured I could at least give him the filters but my dialog wouldn't let me. I was hoping I could just move on to another quest from the Elder but it looks like I'm stuck until I can get him those items. Any advice?

Go into the console and type in this command:
player.additem 001632e1 2

If that doesn't work, try looking up your issue and see what you can do with it. If push comes to shove, then just force the quest along using the console.

I'm guessing you're running a mod which intentionally hides "quest items" to stop them from cluttering your inventory display. lStewieAl's Tweaks[www.nexusmods.com] does this, for eg. If that's the case, you'll be able to see them on your inventory's Misc tab once you finish the related quests, assuming you still have them at that point - the game wouldn't allow to drop (let alone sell!) the items before then anyway.

Elder McNamara doesn't want the filter parts: you need to give those to Lorenzo.[fallout.fandom.com] I don't think he'll take the HEPA filters and reverse pulse cleaner until you've also collected the differential pressure controller, though.

Thanks fellas, you have given me a lot to think about. Thanks for reminding me about the Diff. Press. Control. I missed seeing that one on the list. Once I latch onto that and turn them in to Lorenzo, things might start looking up.
I don't do mods except one, that one is the carryweight mod could that be the culprit that is causing me not to see that item.
As for the box of goodies that I found at a small fiend camp site out on the wasteland. I had already taken care of business with Motor Runner so I don't understand why that is not showing up and why I can't sell it. Anyhow I appreciate all of the good ideas you gave me, I'll press on and try to find that last item on the list and get that off my plate first. Then if all goes well I will have another go at finding out where my goodie box disappeared to. I'm not that savvy with the console other than entering a one liner for the weight carry mod.

Reckon your mystery box is the disassembled weapons shipment[fallout.fandom.com], in which case it'll be tied to the How Little We Know[fallout.fandom.com] quest.

Ok everything is working fine now. Once I retrieved the Diff. Press. Cont. I got the message to return to Lorenzo and it completed the quest. I never did see the Reverse Pulse item though in my inventory but it must have been there somewhere. You are dead on mate about the disassembled weapons shipment, that is what it was called. Unfortunately I wasn't able to sell it and latch onto those 4000 plus caps that is said it was worth. It showed up in my inventory when I went to sell it as being of no value. Does it come into play later or is it just something I can drop or pass on to a buyer. Thanks for all of the help.

You drop it off during that quest I linked you to.

If you go out of your way to fail that quest, then the game might remove the quest flag from it (allowing you to sell it normally)... or it might not (dooming you to lug it around for the rest of your play through - note that it has no carry weight while set as a quest item, though).
