Importing New Vegas Animations to Fallout 3
Probably the biggest thing that has not aged well for me about Fallout 3 is the horrendous human animations in the game, which were considerably in Fallout New Vegas. The only mod that changes the animations of Fallout 3, the Fallout 3 Re-Animated mod is a bit too much for me, and I'd prefer just importing NV's 3rd person animations. I'm aware that there aren't any mods that do this because you can't just rip assets out of another game for a public mod, but I've tried doing this myself and I haven't gotten anywhere. So I was wondering if anyone here knew how to do this

Tale of the two wastelands combines the two games in the fallout new vegas engine.

I know this but I don't want to go through the trouble of setting up TTW. It seems that it should be straightfoward to just import the animations but I guess I'm missing something

If you think it's less trouble to import animations than it is to install TTW, then yes, you are definitely missing something.

+1

OP you know its not just 'importing' them. Then you have to ensure they're named properly at a minimum to ensure the game uses them. And even then FO3 might not have all the animation options that FNV has so there could be a lot of animations that are simply never called.

I've seen that some people have successfully done this, but unfortunately they have all either not included how, or they have but for some reason my New Vegas data doesn't seem to contain the files that it should that would allow me to bring the 3rd person animations over.

So today for the 3rd time since getting both games, I've attempted to install Tale of Two Wastelands. Thinking back on

I laughed pretty hard, because despite following the exact instructions of both YouTube tutorials and the Tale of Two Wastelands site itself to the letter, for no apparent reason FOMM refused to install the fomod. So no, I don't think I'm missing anything. I think I'm correct for thinking that importing the animations would be significantly easier, if any of you actually knew how to do it and could explain it.

LOL.....dude it's infinitely easier to install TTW then to somehow import animation mods made for NV into FO3. Do not use FOMM...use MO2 or Vortex.

Really, because the TTW website, in it's installation guide which was updated less than two months ago, stated that it most reccomended the FOMM 0.14. If the people who created TTw are wrong on how to install it, then I think it's a bit more complicated then it would seem

Maybe they just have a preference for that....honestly though life is much easier with MO2 where the files don't actually get placed in your main game directory, meaning it gives you far more a chance to experiment and see what works and what doesn't without having to reinstall the game or restore files that were overwritten.

How would you use MO2 to install TTW? I have MO2 but never really used it, and I already have the FOMODs generated for TTW

Just stick the fomods in the download directory for mo, it recognizes them.

This.

Also, FOMM Fork works perfectly fine as well, not the old version.

TTW is a huge mod, so it will cause FOMM to not respond and appear frozen, but it is working on installing the mod. It stays in that state anywhere from 5-15 mins or so, then resumes once fully installed.

Both mod managers make it simple with patience.
I was using FOMM Fork, and also I got past the part where it stops responding, but then for whatever reason it asked me whether to overwrite some files, something none of the guides cover, and directly after that I got an error message and then a message that the mod didn't install. Idk. Tomorrow I'll probably reinstall both games, redownload the TTW installer, and maybe FOMM as well

This was done in a mod when the game first released

The mediafire link in the description still works

It's less trouble to install this mod someone already made that does exactly what the OP wanted.

The guy who made the video above privated the video. So the mod is now lost media. It was thankfully archived on archive.org
