He is a dangerous man that the courier should not trust which is true because he actually do not care for anyone. He has him self and Yes Man to plan to take over new Vegas. Even someone work for him as a body guard or mercenary, he still betrayed them like he did to great Khans.
So even player allow him to live or sleep with him, he still do not want to team up with the courier. Because he know that he's not made for that.
Lol it was nice seeing this classic again, updated for fallout too.
A good rpg isn't one where the world is made of clay and the player is free to sculpt it as they wish. It's one filled with characters that act consistent with their beliefs however the player chooses to interact with them.
The reason a cut, but mostly intact House/NCR alliance remains in the game files is because it was deemed out-of-character for House after a scenario revision.
Another example is that you don't actually end the war with the Legion if you opt for the non-violent path with Speech/Barter. You only delay it. You don't convince Lanius not to fight, you convince him he's not ready to take the West.
You could pretty much assume Rex having needed to kill people for the Legion.
1. Benny being a power hungry individual, wants to keep the number of people with the potential to overthrow him as low as possible with one of the only people with the potential to do so that he trusts literally being programmed not to (Yes Man.) The courier on the other hand is essentially a complete wild card in the scheme of things and as such he refuses to trust you even if you do try to side with him. Dean actually behave in a manner similar to this (although arguably to a lesser extent) given that he only trusts Vera since he has the ability to blackmail her, and he only trusts the courier due to the collars though even then only if they never exhibit any behavior he finds threatening
2. There may’ve been plans for a Benny+Courier ending, but it might have been scrapped during development or dropped due to the short development timeframe.
I'm amazed Emily Ortel is still alive. Seems like a sloppy mistake for Benny.
Because when Benny has the power he doesn't need you and when you have the power you don't need him.
