Combat is TERRIBLE. Any way to fix this?
Hitboxes are sporadic, iron sights on most weapons are obnoxiously designed and obscure the screen and your ability to aim effectively, and the gunplay generally feels god awful.

I know this is supposed to be one of the greatest Fallouts though, I really want to play for the story but I just cant get past how terrible the combat feels. Aiming feels so janky that I can never properly or effectively engage enemies, but they have aimbot so Ive been flying through my supplies and stimpacks.

Are there are tweaks/mods that address this issue? Id greatly appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. Ive found visual combat mods like weapon inertia and animations but nothing that effects actual gameplay.

Are you using a keyboard or a controller?

Controller. Anyone know of mods that effect gun handling/aiming? Or anything that makes combat even a little better?

Besides NOT using a controller? Not really. Most of the "janky" parts of combat are hardcoded.

It's an rpg so you need to invest skill points in whatever type weapons you use or any skill for that matter. Early game no matter how skilled an fps player you are, aim will still be terrible. Various mods can improve many parts of the game, but it's never going to be a great fps.

I'm not some keyboard elitist, but trust me New Vegas is a lot better with mouse/keyboard. This game is very clunky and no amount of mods can turn it into Fallout 4 or a decent FPS.

Use mouse/keyboard, and rely on VATS. With a few exceptions, such as fighting nightstalkers,
New Vegas seems designed for that.

within the game, go to settings and look for "disable true ironsights" might help get the gun out of your face.

I was wondering this, had a feeling precision aiming would be a bit easier with a mouse. Gonna give this a go.

Was really hoping there would be a mod to fix this, guess that was a foolish thought. Makes sense that this kind of thing would be "hard coded."

It ain’t about shooting... again it ain’t a fps game. To survive u need to use melees and explosives, always depending on the situation.

Really? Id argue quite the opposite, its definitely an FPS, that much is a fact. And shooting is the vehicle that facilitates the story delivery. Most of your time is spent shooting, its the foundation of the game.

That said I think I understand what your trying to say, the good part of the game isnt about the shooting, which I agree with. Thanks for the tips though!

Interesting, in that the vast majority of my characters never use melee, and only rarely use explosives. But any weapon style is viable, depending on your character.

Nope, that's just wrong. The only time I go to melee is to add variety to my game, not because I need to. I'll admit that sometimes a Deathclaw just needs a nuke. Shooting works just fine in this game, certainly as well as melee.

DFB Dynamic Crosshair.
VATS alternative - bullet time
You might also want something to remove autoaim, because often it's more a liability than help, but I don't know if it's good idea when playing with controller.
Finally, there are mods rebalancing weapons and enemies, but I never found one that would satisfy my needs for balance, so I ended up making my own.
