So... who get's the money from purchase?
Internet searches are being a pain in the ass, so I might as well ask another reliable (hopefully) source: the community!
(Please be merciful...)

With the reasons out of the way, can anyone tell me who gets paid when someone buys this game and how much?
Obsidian? Bethesda? A ratio between the two?
Is it forgotten by the developers and is now only coal for the Steam train?

Data = ease of mind!

Sure - ultimately Zenimax, and then whoever owns Zenimax I guess, which I think is SBS, Providence, Christopher Weaver and Robert Altman mostly.

Christopher Weaver was thrown out in 2002 and its most likely the one of the reasons Bethesda turned to pure ♥♥♥♥ after Morrowind.

I think you're right, but I also think he is a majority shareholder still. But he been benched fo sho.

Bethesda.

Obsidian's contract to develop New Vegas stipulated them getting an 85 Metacritic score. They got an 84. This meant they lost all royalties etc. So they only got the initial fee.

The cynic might see this as a cool way to make a lot of cash from your closest possible rival while at the same time crippling them.

I heard about this (another reason to dislike Bethesda, btw), but it's hard to tell if they lost royalties or just a bonus.
The data tends to be a tad bit vague with this notion.

Sorry - I should have just said the words "future payments" or similar. From memory I think you're correct, there was no royalty, but here was a bonus for hitting 85.

I guess a deal is a deal, but given the all of the parts and the outcome and that we are still jamming on it I think the community consensus is that good faith would have meant awarding Obsidian the bonus.

Sadly there's no need for hope. That ship sailed long ago and Obsidian accepted the outcome. It won't be revisited. I just wish they'd done a better job on The Outer Worlds. I kinda feel like Bethesda has my bestie hostage and is doing mean things to it. Be great to have an alternative.

Zenimax publishes Bethesda's work usually, right (being it's parent company)? So I wonder if they get anything from this.

Well, Obsidian is not the same company it was then. I'd say it's for the best. Outer Worlds is boring af.

Xenimax. They own all of it.

Man, what a tangled web this turned out to be, huh?
Companies can be so over complicated, sometimes...
