Lucky 38 armory question

Do I come across Lucky 38 armor on my own, or do I have to find it? I want those weapons.

As far as I know, there is no "Lucky 38 Armor". There are only two weapons guaranteed to spawn inside the Lucky 38 and they are the Golden Boxing Gloves and a 9mm Submachine Gun. A 9mm pistol or laser pistol might randomly spawn in the safes in the casino floor.

The armory has a lot of weapons. Look it up.

If you mean the Basement, there is only a 9mm Submachine Gun available to loot from there.

The Lucky 38 only gives you a Presidential Suite. It has some items and workbenches but there is no armory. The Lucky 38 armory is a mod that changes the Lucky 38 Presidential Suite into an armory suite.

OP, your mention of the Lucky 38 Armory makes me think you might have it confused with Vault 34. There is a quest associated with that vault, and you can get it at the NCR Sharecroppers Farm. Morgan Blake is the quest-giver.

Also, the weapons you get in the vault, such as the rifles, are they necessary to have later in the game?

There are two unique weapons in the Vault 34 armory, however; only one of them is a part of a quest. All the other goodies aren't unique, but quite expensive if you repair all of them via repair kits or the jury rigging perk. I assume you haven't been there before so I won't give you more info than that. If spoilers aren't an issue then just look up location info in the wiki. Have fun.

I mean do I need those weapons not because of quest but because you need those weapons for their effectiveness.

You don't "need" any weapon, you can finish the game with your bare hands if you're built for it.

Whatever works for your build is what works. There's no end all be all weapon that's the defacto best weapon everyone should strive for
