Yes Man vs Caesar. Which is more fun?
On my first playthrough through fallout new vegas and im stuck on whether or not to join Caesar Legions or Yes Man.

I was wondering if a veteran new vegas player could explain some of the pros/cons of both sides and most importantly who has a more fun/rewarding storyline.

I dont care about having a "good" ending (hence why Im not doing NCR or Mr. House.) I mainly just care about whichever is the most fun.

Probably Yes Man. Caesar (like NCR and House) makes you follow his rules throughout the story, while the benefit of Yes Man is that you can do whatever you want when it comes to side factions.

I would say Yes Man. Unless you like being told what to do.

The only thing the Legion storyline has going for it is the final battle, which is far more fun than with any other faction imho.

I personally find the Legion quest line to be the most interesting.

The other three factions have relatively similar quest lines.

Caesar's Legion is the only one that truly gives you a unique experience.

I recommend to every New Vegas player to do at least one Legion play through, solely for the experience.

Yes Man is basically the reason why Benny popped you in the head.
Caesar's legion is like the NCR, they could care less about New Vegas.
Guess it depends on if you like living free or living under tyranny.

Living free, but with relative Anarchy (this is a common thing among all Yes Man endings, in some regard, and the idea of maintaining power is...mixed).

Living under tyranny, but with absolute safety from raiders, mutants, feral ghouls, dangerous creatures, worse organizations (they do exist), etc..

I like to emphasize that both endings are bad. One gives you rule over Vegas, for good or bad reasons, but with SO many problems. MANY. The other is extremely close to living as a literal Roman, but with complete safety from 95% of what other wastelanders worry about

I second this.

I usually go independent, though I have played a Legion character before: she was a melee/unarmed build, with explosives for range, and the whole thing was just big, stupid fun.

I mean, sure, Vegas would probably be a lot safer under the Legion (assuming that Caesar survives), but that safety would come with a hefty price tag- freedom, individuality, and any kind of autonomy would disappear.

As for independent Vegas, it would be anarchic AF... but at least you'd have your freedom.

I agree, but many often say "freedom" without realizing what they've done. Your freedom goes as far as the anarchistic groups who wish to now kill you and steal your stuff :/

NCR or House, all the way.

I think that each major faction presents some significant problems, we can first eliminate the obvious ones that would be terrible, the Legion relies on constant expansion, much like the Romans, and the problem is that even of the Legion can conquer the Mojave, they can't expand past California into the Pacific, they are also super sexist and xenophobic. Yes Man's ending would result in a massive power vacuum that would be filled by Fiends, Vipers, Jackals, the Omertas, or the Chairmen. That leaves the House and NCR endings. Beginning with the House ending, it is actually a lot better than it might seem. House would be a dictator, but he truly believes in freedom. he also is an incredibly smart and calculating man. He would most likely be able to expand his Securitron army, or hire an army of mercenaries to defend Vegas from any threat. The only problem is that House isn't immortal, he will die eventually and then there would be the same vacuum as before. That leaves the NCR ending. The main problems with the NCR is that it is spread too thin, the politicians are much too worried about getting reelected, and they are unable to protect common people. I think that a few of the problems are short term. The NCR only has to allocate resources to the Front is to defend from the Legion, if First Recon wasn't stationed at Forlorn Hope to fight the Legion, then they could hunt Fiends and take out their leaders. The only reason the NCR couldn't destroy the Powder Gangers or drive the Deathclaws from Quarry Junction was because they had to defend themselves from Caesar's Legion. I also think that the main reason the NCR is the best ending was because it was built to last, the Legion relies on the wisdom of Caesar, and when he died, they would eventually collapse. A House controlled Vegas would have to rely on the leadership of Mr. House, and if he died, he would be swiftly replaced by anarchy. The NCR actually has a democratic government, and a process by which a successor is chosen.

Mr. House wouldn't just die like that though. He's definitely going to survive many more years. If he's been kept alive all this time, what's to say he won't be kept alive for another couple hundred years? His life support hasn't shown any signs of stopping.
Even if and when he inevitably dies, it will be a long time after the events of New Vegas, when the world is a completely different place. We can't say for sure how things will turn out. We don't know if the NCR will even be a thing by the time of House's death, or how much territory he would control by that point. He can always make plans for a successor or A.I. duplicate of himself as well. The latter is even more likely, seeing that arguably crazier things have happened in the Fallout universe and that House is more than capable of developing something like that or having it be developed.
