YUP and Simple saves are honorable mentions. YUP just about fixes every bug while Simple Saves automatically saves every 5 minutes at a max of 5 save slots. Once 5 saves are made it overwrites the oldest first.
If you use 4GB Patcher and NVSE then you can launch with the steam launcher but make sure the Fallout.ini and FalloutPref.ini are both set to read only. Launching via Vortex may not load NVSE/ 4GB properly.
Without more details it would be like a blind man leading a deaf man.
Edit: Last I checked Vortex is fully automatic. However you can click on the Games tab in the top left and then scan for games at the bottom right. Then click on the central tabs. Managed are games you have allowed Vortex to manage. Discovered are games that Vortex has found but has not been allowed to manage yet. Then a list of supported games as the final tab. If it cannot find your game something is wrong as it can detect games installed across multiple drives (it claims this at least I however use MO/ MO2).
I'll make two more posts. The next one will be links for mods. The final post will be some brief instructions to set it up.

NVSR

NVAC - you already have this one

Simple Saves - optional

NVSE: Copy the .dll and .exe files to your Fallout NV directory. This is usually in your Program Files folder under Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\. If you see files named FalloutNV.exe and FalloutNVLauncher.exe, this is the correct folder.
Once done now open the open the Data folder. Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Data. Create a new folder in it and name it NVSE. Now open that folder and create a notepad document and name it nvse_config.ini. If it doesn't automatically convert it to a config file (has a gear icon on it) then open the file rename it that same name then save. It should then work. Now copy paste this into it:
[Memory]
DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=496
scrapHeapSizeMB=128
Now save it and close it. Now while you still have the NVSE folder open you need to create a folder and name it Plugins. This is where NVAC and NVSR will go. Any additional script extender plugins will also go there.
Open the NVSR config file and make sure its settings look like this:
bManageFPS = 1
bHookCriticalSections = 0
bHookLightCriticalSections = 0
bHookHashtables = 1
bReplaceHeap = 0
bReplaceGetTickCount = 1
bLogToConsole = 0
bFastExit = 1
bFlushLog = 1
iSchedulingResolution = 1
bReplaceRandom = 1
bExperimentalStuff = 0
iMainHookPoint = 1
Navigate down to FPS_Management and change it to this:
bInject_iFPSClamp = 1
fMaximumFPS = 59
fMinimumFPS = 15
iFPS_Report_Period = 15000
fExtraSleepPercent =0.05
That should just about be all you need to get the vanilla game at least playable. You can also download and install Simple Saves to get automatic saves every 5 minutes.
Note: You may need to launch the game once with the NVSE launcher. Just start it up and then exit the game once in the menu.
Edit: You can use any launcher to launch the game even the steam app but make sure you set the Fallout.ini and FalloutPref.ini both to read only. They are found in Documents/My Games/FalloutNV. Right click then select properties. You can always change them back if you need to edit the files but always set them to read only when done.
I use the Nexus Manager, only time I ever use Vortex is to download mods onto Nexus.
EDIT: I don't use Vortex I mean, sometimes I get that mixed up between Nexus' normal Mod Manager download button and that. lol
MO, MO2, and Vortex are all virtual. Nothing is actually installed only linked so that uninstalling is easy and the game is untouched. The biggest difference is Vortex requires the mods to be on the same drive as the game. MO/ MO2 can have mods installed anywhere. If you use a SSD for your OS/ games and an HDD for storage than this means more SSD real estate will be needed for mods. Not a huge deal but I rather keep my SSD light.
I could get more technical as to why NMM is truly the worst mod manager but it wouldn't help much at this point. My suggestion is if you don't understand how something actually works then don't comment on it. Also don't hijack a thread.
I don't know what you mean by mods not uninstalling in NMM, I've been able to uninstall mods all the time on it, and I'll think about using other mod managers if that's really somehow related to the game crashing, not the mods itself.
In theory NMM will restore game files upon uninstalled mods but it doesn't. Not all the time. There's a lot of reasons why the concept was abandoned in favor of virtualisation.
In short stop using NMM and just switch. I for one have never had a crash in over 1200 hours of FNV across 4 different computers. XP, Windows 7, 8.1, and now I'm on 10. Only time I get crashes is when I'm testing things I know will likely push Gamebryo too far.
