Which mod managers do people use nowadays?
As far as I am aware, NMM and FOMM are the only options. I've had pretty negative experiences with NMM so have been using FOMM instead for the past 6 or so years. But lately it's been having annoying issues where it won't load up (it doesn't crash or freeze, I just launch it and nothing happens) and nothing fixes this short of uninstalling it and reinstalling in a new folder. Some people have said that's caused by using NMM or connecting to nexus mods, but I have done neither of those things, it seems to happen randomly after the game crashes, as it tends to do.

So since this keeps happening, I'm looking to switch over. Are there any newer alternatives people use nowadays? Or am I forced to go back to NMM?

MO2 is the best Mod manager nowadays. It works by storing your mods in a separate directory, so your base directory will remain untouched. It also makes removing mods and tweaking them a lot easier.

but most mods for FNV or FO3 requires FOMM or didn't support MO2. Do they still work fine with MO2 then? I like MO2 a lot( I use it for Skyrim/Fallout 4 etc) but still use Forked FOMM for FO3 and FNV

Thank you, an alternative is exactly what I was looking for. Seems like there are questionable reports as to whether it works, I think it isn't even compatible with TTW, but it's worth a try right now

Mo2 is good for TTW, I've tried it before. The profile system is a beautiful thing

Still using NMM (community version).

Have not had any particular reason to switch.

Tried Vortex a few years ago, but the UI was crap.

I switched to Vortex and still works fine for me and NMM is outdated now btw

There is an updated version of FOMM which is available on the nexus. It provides some features including marking esp and esm when you do not have the masters they require which is nice.

NMM works fine though. Outside of the auto download function. When it comes to using it's auto installer, activation, and other tools well, I've never had a problem with NMM.

It's the primary reason I've not stopped using FOMM for Fallout 3 or NV either. They work perfectly fine.

Mean while Vortex easily has the worst UI of any of the Mod Managers on Nexus right now. Everyone I know hates Vortex. Why Nexus keeps trying to support it, well it's beyond me. You know it's bad when people specifically come to you because they know you, and know you don't use Vortex just so they can get recommendations on what Mod Manager to use because they don't like Vortex. That has been my modding experience on Discord with people who know I play Bethesda games, and openly state that I do not use Vortex in VC. lol

A gtx 980 ti is also outdated.

Doesn't mean it doesn't do the job.

Seriously, I dislike vortex very strongly. The entire UI is complete and utter garbage. Nothing it provides or does I've seen is better or has unique functions aside from NMM, FOMM or Mo2. I can't understand why anyone would want to use it unless it was completely reworked on

It's the main reason NMM, FOMM and MO2 are still relevant. NMM, FOMM and MO2 are still getting updates made by modders not associated with Nexus.

Vortex, MO2, and FOMM fork are all good in their own ways. NMM is the only one not really recommended.
Bansheebutt Feb 22, 2020 @ 2:20pm
Can't imagine why.
It still handles mods fine.

Personally I do have an ancient version of FOMM I keep around for extracting files from BSAs, but most people aren't actual Modders that would need something like that.

Feels like a case of people thinking they "Need" the absolute most recent software, regardless of functionality.

it doesn't work for me and many others I have seen talk about it hints why they switched to vortex instead of having NMM there has been a lot of issues with NMM

Yes, even the most stable software can be subject to PEBCAK errors.

Personally I haven't had an issue though, which is why I've never bothered to switch to anything else.
