Is it worth taking Nelson for NCR?

So I've been doing quests at camp forlorn hope when they tell me I could take Nelson for NCR,I'm not doing the NCR ending or Leigion so I don't know if I should or not.
Also is it okay for the Leigion to hate me so early in the game?
If anybody could tell me what to do please do.

Okay but just wondering do you have to do it to get the NCR ending?
Also is it worth the bad reputation with the Leigion to just kill them all yourself?

All quests other than the main quest are optional. You don't have to do them to reach the end, but some affect the ending and they are all worth doing for the experience and rewards.
Getting on the Legion's bad side will obviously have consequences. They send hitsquads after you which have top level gear even if you're at low levels, so you'll have a tough time. You reset your negative Legion rep when you finish the first act, after dealing with Benny.

You can't really bounce back from them wanting to kill you.
