So is Veronica.
Fallout NV is one of the few games to portray LGBT characters accurately. Just like in the real world, you aren't going to know if most people are homosexual, and also like in the real world, homosexuality aren't most people's defining traits. Arcade would sooner tell you that his parents were Enclave members than he would tell you that he is homosexual.

The dude calls you "Anus lickin good" if you have the Bachelor perk.

Part of me wants to look this up to confirm it, but another part of me doesn't, afraid of the other results I may get lol

I've gotta agree that this game does a pretty good job of portraying sexuality. You can only find out about it through reading people's notes, having the right perks/dialogue options, or being in a situation where it is relevant. iirc there are only two gay people, a man and a woman, in the game who are obnoxiously open about it if your character is of the right gender. One of them seems to be for comedic effect and the other is due to severe trauma.

You can tell at a glance though. Same with the guy at the NCR outpost.

Arcade did somewhat surprise me, but my gaydar was going insane when I met Veronica. Upon seeing her, I was 90% sure. New Vegas deserves some points for not making their entire characters based around their sexuality, though I think there may have been a few too many. Take one of the "♥♥♥♥" traits and you'll see that around 33% of the Mojave is gay.

Acutally, even that is pretty realistic. Looking at the named characters page, this game has a bit over 400 human and ghoul characters, somewhere around 450 if you count robots/animals/mutants. That's not counting generic NPCs like NCR troopers, whose stories you don't ever get to know. Looking at the wiki pages for both the homosexual perks, there are about 20 total entities you can get a reaction from based on that. I'm not sure if all of them count, since you can hit on Jack as a gay male despite the fact that his only quest in the game is getting him in a relationship with a woman, Cass mentions she doesn't care who she sleeps with when drunk but seems disturbed by that, or the fact that you can hit on prostitutes of your gender (since it is their job, they might not truly be of that orientation). You can also flirt with the robotic light switch in old world blues as a lesbian, and with both homosexual genders you can flirt with your own brain, so whether those count is highly debatable. So just roughly saying 20/400, that's exactly 5% of the named characters in the game. A Gallup poll estimates as of 2016 that around 4.1% of US adults are homosexual, while for millenials who feel more open to discussing it that goes as high as 7.3%. Even though this game was released when homosexuality was still a rather taboo topic, the numbers are pretty realistic.

I did way too much research to answer that but I genuinely find it interesting now that I know

It has nowhere near that amount of named human characters but alright bud.
The game is more compact and has less npc's than people give it credit for unless you're counting the leveled npc's.

Actually, yeah, my mistake. Technically there are 450 named characters if you take out the cut ones, which rounds up to 500, not 400. My bad
Yhwach Aug 25, 2018 @ 12:32am
There are 1,883 leveled list characters placed in the world, and 308 actual named characters - 31 if you take out cut characters that have no "count" for being placed, rather, are just named.
That means there are 277 named characters hand placed in the game without dlc, at least.

Possibly more if Obsidian's management didn't push for a release.

Sure, let's ignore almost 200 characters to prove a point. Wait, what IS your point?
