[ISSUE] Fallout New Vegas installer could not be found.

Hey, so I seem to be having an issue where it tells me that the game doesn't seem to be installed and that the setup.exe isn't found. I've checked other forum discussions but it doesn't seem to work.
.I've tried running it as administrator
.It's set to run compatibility for windows 7 (I'm on Windows 10)
.It's installed in the correct directory as steam (The steam directory is installed in a "Games" folder on a D drive)
.The main window that comes up for the settings and tech files says "Play" instead of "install" which seems to be contrary to the problems that I've seen people have
.I've also tried a BATCH file that was supposed to fix the problem but it didn't work...

I would really love some help, this is the first time I've had this issue and it started happening recently. I've always have had issues with New Vegas but never like this.

Edit: I've also verified the game files and that didn't work either. Also each time I hit play it just closes and asks if I want to launch another fallout new vegas, if I hit no then it just tells me that the game doesn't appear to be installed and the installer isn't found.

I've deleted the steam download cache and that didn't seem to work, currently, I'm reinstalling the game. I'll update you if that works at all.

Since you installed outside of /Program Files.../ you shouldn't be having admin permission issues, so that is good.


You might try downloading a small mod manager called FOMM and (try to) use it to launch the game. It's an easy way to troubleshoot plus may be a workaround.

I'm thinking if there is some .ini/.reg error as to game location this program will tell you or otherwise won't recognize the game.

Just manually download it wherever you want:
Fill out a couple setting options. (game location)
When finshed, Select File > Launch Game


If it works, great, if not you are probably be dealing with a .reg issue.

Run: Regedit (Windows Key+R, then type in the word)

Find this loaction:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\(Wow6432Node)*\Bethesda Softworks\FalloutNV

Look at installed path.

While I was installing it ceased installing and told me content file lock with a file path, I can't copy it but what I can tell you is that inside the Data folder in the new vegas directory the "Gun Runners Arsenal.BSA" is locked for some reason

edit: also I can't even open the data folder because it's telling me access denied

Just hit "PrnScr" and past into Windows Paint.
Crop and upload to Imgur.

As for the error. I am not familiar with that one. It could be waiting on the original game files.
If they aren't registered properly it won't work.

I would however check my solution above (below) and see if you have the right filepath.
If you don't DLC won't work.
Try starting the game w/o loading DLC.
