I don't install every mod on the list and I don't always do every step and I always add my own personal mods. But is nice to have some sense of direction. It allows you to keep a level of "freedom" when modding your game. All you have to do is install similar mods at the same time. For example install all your other companion mods when the guide tells you to install its companion mod. Also allows you to keep a good load order.
Its also really good for learning some of the more advanced things of modding Fallout NV and in the end can get you a really enjoyable and hopefully stable game.
