The graphics aren't trying to be flashy so they don't age badly. They just work.

The 360/PS3 generation was full of muddy textures and poor draw-distance. And if not, the tradeoff was an abysmal framerate.
Oblivion did have the capacity for Actor self-shadowing (And full scene shadowing in the beta), but it was buggy and had a high performance cost, so in typical Bethesda fashion they chose to remove it from the 3/NV version of the engine instead of improving it.
...So long as you're looking exclusively at Chris Redfield's shirt.
fear is an awful game that's why they had to add extra resources to make it look pretty.
to me id rather have a game that has poor graphics but excellent gameplay over a game which does look pretty but offers awful gameplay. that's why i like fnv over fo4. best of both worlds would be amazing though.
