if you want a post apocolyptic with guns, new vegas (best modern fallout game)
Like what UknownEnigma stated. Oblivion is a high fantasy RPG. Since you already played Skyrim, you should be relatively familar with the setting. Oblivion has much more RPG aspects to it though compared to Skyrim. Whereas Skyrim doesn't even have a character class system. Oblivion does and that's just one difference.
Fallout NV is a post-apocalyptic RPG. But if you've only played Fallout 4, then you will find Fallout NV to be much more different. For one, Fallout NV is developed by Obsidian which consists of developers who created the original Fallout 1 and 2. So Fallout NV is much more in line with the original writer's vision. Whereas Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 are Bethesda's take and Fallout Tactics is its own brand. Fallout NV also has more RPG aspects and emphasis on dialogue choices. Fallout 4 has a better combat system though. Fallout NV plays more like the classic Fallout games except its 3d. You have much more importance on stats than just aim.
Both are easily moddable and have THOUSANDS of mods. Just like Skyrim and Fallout 4.
Fallout NV is on a newer engine than Oblivion. Not that much newer though. Still old school Gamebryo. Whereas Skyrim and Fallout 4 are on the Creation Engine.
So really it comes down to whether or not you want a fantasy game or a post-apocalyptic game.
Your choice. If you wish for nonsensical openworld, go for oblivion. If you expect a story rich roleplaying game, go for New Vegas (with dlcs wich add hours of content and are really good).
Major issue with Bethesda (since dagerfall, wich was innovative, open world and so on) : they do not understand how leveling should work...
Yep there is an autorithy argument there : Bethesda do ♥♥♥♥, Obsidian do better.
I'd say get both, because they're pretty cheap or you can wait for steam sale. Going to play Oblivion when i'm finished with my business in new vegas.
If you have a good computer then forget this.
Same in oblivion : if you want to optimise your guy, you have to select custom class whit skills you won't use... nonsense...
Edit : and before you tell me that I do not have to that, I'll tell you I do not have to do anything, story is inexistant
