How to trigger For Auld Lang Syne?
Minor side quest/companion spoilers ahead.

I've already got all five "Trust" points that I need. I did all the following:

Spoke with Thomas Hildern and in the following conversation with Arcade Gannon, chose the dialogue option "Good thing there are still people like you around." for two points, according to the wiki.

Visited the crashed Vertibird, for one point.

Visited the Silver Rush shop, for one point.

Visited REPCONN's headquarters, for one point.

In terms of main storyline progression, I have just killed Benny and gone no further. So tell me, how and when, if at all, will the quest trigger? The wiki seems to imply that the quest can trigger without main storyline progression if the player gets five trust points instead of two.

It doesn't trigger until you've either locked in with ncr, house, or yes man (won't trigger if you lock in with legion)

Don't remember the exact point, but it's like near the end of the main story and the hoover dam battle is upcoming.

Storyline triggers
The specific point in the story that will trigger the quest varies based on whether the player character has gained Arcade's approval (see the section below) and which main quest line the player character has moved forward with.

If Arcade approves of the player character (at least two "trust" points gained via the methods below), he will offer the For Auld Lang Syne quest if one or more of the following conditions are met (regardless of having Arcade recruited at the time they happened):

The House Always Wins, part V is active, and the player character reports back to Mr. House that the Brotherhood of Steel bunker has been wiped out.

Wild Card: Change in Management is active and the player character installs Yes Man into the Lucky 38 mainframe. Yes Man then needs to be installed (and the quest therefore completed) for Arcade to make his request.

For the Republic, Part 2 is active and the player character reports back to Colonel Moore that Mr. House has been killed or disconnected from his mainframe.

Even if the player character has not accumulated two "like" points, Arcade will still offer the quest when the following point is hit:

Wild Card: Finishing Touches is active and the player character installs the override chip in the El Dorado substation.

Note: Arcade will not offer this quest in response to any Caesar's Legion quest, though as it is possible to work on multiple main quests simultaneously, it is possible to trigger the quest while still doing work for Caesar. To do this, achieve an 'accepted' status from Caesar's Legion (and the NCR, if you want to prevent them from becoming an immediate enemy, but achieving a favorable reputation with Caesar's Legion is much harder) and install Yes Man. Both Don't Tread on the Bear! and Beware the Wrath of Caesar! will activate, but neither will shun you. Note that if you travel far enough along the main quest lines to offer the Boomers' help to either side, the two respective warning quests will activate, and installing Yes Man will cause you to become vilified. To avoid all repercussions, from the NCR, this means finishing the quests Render Unto Caesar through Part 2 (Kill Mr. House then report back to Caesar before installing Yes Man), The Finger of Suspicion, killing Benny in the arena, and defeating all of the competitors in the arena (all give Legion fame).

I guess I'll advance the main questline then, but I have one question:

Is it possible to trigger this quest while having a positive reputation with the Legion?

To quote this guide:
"-You need to be liked by the NCR and hated by the Legion"

But what if I want to have a positive reputation with both?

Yes you can trigger it with positive legion karma, you just need to be far enough in one of the main quests that isn't legion side. And Gannon won't join you initially if you have positive legion karma, so that's likely where the confusion comes in.

Actually you have to get companion points with arcade that can be done by going to places like the repconn museum and directing energy from Helios one to outer vegas and visiting the crashed vertibird and then you have to progress like some people said earlier to a certain point in the story

Yes you need to know how to trigger auld Lang syne arcades companion quest to do so you have to rack up karma with him which can only be done a few ways then like the other guy said you do the main mission a litttle then arcade should say he wants to talk if you think I’m lying look it up on Wikipedia

Well it didn’t say that before you only just recently update and even if you had updated when I go to the page it shoots me to the bottom so not like I could see it and yes it should trigger as long as you don’t choose Cesar if you are in a fit with ncr I guess best choice is yes man or mr house
