Killing Papa Khan Without Rep Loss
I'm posting this here because someone had posted a question about killing Papa Khan not too long ago, but as I was typing my reply, it seems that the discussion was closed. So I'm putting the answer here instead.

When killing Papa Khan, here's a few general things to keep in mind first:

(1) You must continue to remain hidden before, during, and immediately after the kill. It's not enough to just be hidden at the start.

(2) You'll need a one-shot weapon. No way around that. If your first hit/explosion/whatever fails to kill, go back to the drawing board.

(3) The weapon sometimes can't be too loud. I've found, for example, that a .50 cal is usually not a good way to remain hidden. You might be hidden to start with, but the noise will make it obvious who killed Papa.

(4) Make sure no one can see you. Period. Staying still when someone else is nearby isn't going to be enough - when the weapon is fired, they will realize where you are.

Next up we have our two main assassination locations. I would very strongly recommend you experiment with the timing of his daily schedule before you attempt an assassination. I'll attempt to explain each option in detail:

(A) Bedtime murder. Papa Khan goes to bed at midnight.

In order to attempt this method, you have to get in his room, of which there are a few options for entry:
(1) You can pickpocket his room key and enter the bedroom before he goes to sleep. This is usually hard to do without being spotted, though.
(2) You can pick the hard lock before he heads to bed and hide in the room. Naturally, this requires that your Lockpick skill be high enough. Also requires that you be stealthy: no one can watch when you open the door.
(3) Easiest option - just wait until he goes to bed at midnight and slip in the room with him. Note that you might need to stay silent as you follow him.

Now for the part where you kill him. Whatever method you used to get into the room and hide as he went to sleep, now is where you find yourself a weapon.

In general, it's best to wait until around 2 A.M. to attempt a kill, to make sure no one is standing around the bedroom door outside. MAKE SURE TO REMAIN CROUCHED.

(1) Reverse pickpocket an explosive into his inventory. This is quick (when it works). Sometimes other folks will hear it, though.
(2) Kill him quickly with a silenced weapon. If you can fire a silenced weapon fast enough, sometimes you can kill before anyone notices.
(3) Kill him with a powerful melee weapon. It's generally best to do this in one hit, if you can.
(4) Use Mister Sandman on him. Note that most folks don't actually obtain this perk, so if you don't have it, don't bother. It's a rather limited-use perk.

(B) The second method is to kill him on the outhouse. He heads there in the afternoon (exact time can vary slightly).

Be sure that no one else is nearby when using this method, and experiment with the best place to hide. It's usually best to find corners where he can't see you, but you are also somewhat hidden by the main building. The position may depend on the weapon you use.

As always, be sure that you're crouched and Hidden before using a weapon.

(1) In some cases, you can get away with the kill by just chucking an explosive at him, if it kills him in one go. This doesn't always work out, though.
(2) Use a silenced weapon. This isn't guaranteed to work, because he often won't die in one shot from a silenced gun, but sometimes you can get it to fire quickly enough that no one notices.
(3) Use the ARCHIMEDES satellite weapon (Euclid's C-Finder), if you completed That Old Lucky Sun and directed the power to the weapon. Note that this weapon is very buggy; sometimes this method will work, sometimes it won't.
(4) If the above methods don't work, sometimes a simple sniper round will do it, but beware of the noise.

(4) By far the best method I'd have to recommend: Use C-4 and a Detonator. This method requires some preparation - you'll have to put the C-4 in the outhouse before he walks in. Find a hiding place, preferably completely out of his range of vision, and click the Detonator.

Hope that helps someone. :cozybethesda:

Last playthrough I found Papa Khan sitting on the toilet behind the house. Shot in the head while sh.it.ting, that is really a sh.it.ty dead, but I took the chance...SRY! :steamhappy:

He's scripted that way for this exact reason.

It depends on the time of day. He's one of the few npcs with a 'routine' he follows. Which includes crapping outside the same time every day.

ya, the outhouse is scripted for that reason. It's a convenient location behind the building where (usually) no one is walking by.

I usually just kill Papa Khan on sight and whipe out the rest of RedRockCanyon.

If you use a stealth boy, you can reverse pickpocket an explosive into any NPC's pockets without failure, and without ever getting caught. I've tested it plenty, and this seems to be because putting on a stealth boy essentially boosts your sneak to 100. Just a handy tip in general, I think. No matter what character you're playing or what quests you plan on doing, I think it's good to always keep a few spare stealth boys on hand if for some reason you end up needing to kill an NPC but don't want to lose any sort of reputation or need to do it stealthily.

I always carry one or two. Never know when you might want to eliminate an npc without drawing too much ire.

Agreed. Though I almost invariably have companions following, so I'll usually have to plan ahead (figure out where to tell companions to wait) before deciding to take someone out quietly.
