What the hell is with this game's controls?
I have tried playing with both keyboard and controller and both work horribly compared to Fallout 4. I have only ever played Fallout 3 on PS3, then Fallout 4 on PC, loved both and had zero complains. Bought this on sale a long time ago, decided to finally try it. Why are the controls so screwed in all ways? No keys make any sense whatsoever, controller is impossible since you can't sprint at all and for some reason this game and this game alone has an issue with deadzone on my controller. As in out of my 200+ games this is the only one that has deadzone issues. Seriously, what am I doing wrong? Or is this game just an awful console port and I should go back to Fallout 3/4?

I can read just fine. Fortunately for you I *DO* respond to idiots. :V

By the way your capslock key seems to be broken. Problem definitely lies between chair and keyboard on this one.

Alright then what exactly is your issue then? Because this game and Fallout 3 have the same control layout basically, minus the 2 button being reserved for ammo swapping and a mouse acceleration bug that has had a fix for going on a decade now. Complaining that you never needed to change the layout in a game before is a weak excuse. Just do it and play the game. What kind of answer are you looking for here? You want us to email Obsidian for you and complain?

I have something similiar to this, the in-menu mouse sensitivity is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STUPID. I move my mouse literally 2 cm and it goes to the other side of my screen like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nascar.

It's not mouse acceleration, I turned it off. It's just that this game can't handle high sensitivities, I guess.

Everytime I play this game I literally have to lower my DPI because if I don't my mouse suddenly becomes Lightning McQueen whenever I use the Pip-Boy.
Vex Hilarius Aug 22, 2019 @ 6:51pm
You dont turn off mouse acceleration its 4 lines of code you put in the fallout ini

You can sprint with a mod! I use DbpSprint, & Xpadder mapping the X to Left Bumper with Xpadder & the Native X360 Controller support I have no issues, Naturally I replaced the left bumber x360 bind with LS hold object, its an oddity using two controller schemes overlayered but suprisingly effective.

This Method Allows the player to use the standard Console Control UI which is much better than the crappy need of moving the mouse to click items dialogue boxes, & thus the xpadder gives extra functions where you normally can't apply them, with Grab on the Sprint Left Bumber LB you can both hold to grab items & only sprint when moving forward thus do both actions with 1 button with little conflict, then you can add combat roll mod to roll backwards & left/right if edited properly not forward sadly as it conflicts with sprinting if you use solid project this is a non issue however with combat roll you able to directly roll from a sprint verses needing to wait for the custom running animation to finish in Solid Project Mod, I also added a mod that disabled vats since I don't use it &add The Mipmap mod to the same key so vats toggles a map instead nice & neat, naturally I instead use a bullet time like mod which when you aim time slows & uses AP instead of Vats.

Xpadded these...

V right trigger
Space on Y
Arrows on left stick
0 on Left stick press

For Both Xpadder & Keyboard Binds
8#pad forward
4#pad leftward
2#pad backward
6#pad rightward
F Right Stick Press

X Left Bumper.

Keyboard Binds
Attack Enter
Activate E
Block L-Alt4
Ready/Reload R
Sneak L Ctrl
Run X
Always Run, Caps
Auto Move Q
Jump Space
View F
Pipboy Tab
Wait T
Vats V
Ammo Pad 1
Grab Z

X360 Controller Binds
Attack RT
Activate A
Block LT
Ready X
Sneak LS
Jump Y
View RB
Pipboy B
Wait Select
Vats RS
Grab LB

Sadly X360 controllers can't be picked up in a store used I believe anymore & xpadder isn't normally free unless a friend gives you it :), While this was the only method that has worked for me I believe I more or less stumped into it rather than it being a simple solution but rather a how to setup the best of all worlds type reply if you have the controller & xpadder you should try this out its amazing, I doubt you would need the exact button maps but they don't have many conflicts if interested.

Sprinting is a thing? I have never sprinted in F3, FNV or F4.

It's kind of a bad idea to turn your back on deathclaws.:steamhappy:

That and, If you perk up right, You can actually sneak faster than the player can run. :P

Did you verify the game files afterwards?

No, I left it as is.

you should just use the mouse and keyboard, controllers are only acceptable if you play on a console or are playing a pc driving game and dont have a wheel+pedals+shifter

why give yourself a disadvantage?

The controls are literally exactly the same as fallout 3 (with the extra ammo switch button), which also didn't have sprint. Either you got bad memory or you're full of ♥♥♥♥
