well if you do the ranger station quests the director of the rangers kinda committs suicide dropping his sequoia.

well he doesn't have to but its the honorable solution. and you can nick his gun from the ground reasonably easily.

It's possible pick one off a NCR veteran ranger by reverse-pickpocketing a fully repaired hunting revolver into his/her inventory, then take the Ranger Sequoia once they've equipped the hunting revolver. High stealth is needed... along with quicksaving. Otherwise you can just aggravate a ranger holding a Ranger Sequoia to draw on you, shoot it out of their hands, pick it up, and then run like hell. :Khappy:

The 2nd best revolver in the game would be lucky, which can be found in a level 75 floor safe in the Bison Steve's gift shop. It cannibalizes the relatively common .357 magnum round, which can be hand loaded out of the other small pistol rounds.

The 3rd best revolver would be the Mysterious Mangum; however, the mysterious magnum has very low durability. If you're using nothing but revolvers I would still recommend carrying it, since you can manufacture .44 magnum ammunition out of the prolific 10mm round. If you want a .44 as your primary sidearm, however, I'd recommend just upgrading the standard .44 magnum revolver just so you don't have to worry about durability... at least until you pick the Jury Rigging perk.

If you're just starting a game you'll need to start leveling your guns skill fast, as the .44 magnum revolver requires a guns skill of 50 to use properly. Also, you should read up on how to optimize a crit build, as a cowboy build is basically a crit build since you'll need to maximize possible damage if you're going to be using primarily revolvers (even the overpowered Medicine Stick & Ranger Sequoia still benefit from being even more OP).

Also, ditch the riot shotgun. Shotguns are kinda weak due to the DT system... and what cowboy do you know runs around with a street sweeper?

Lucky is a good revolver - used it on my last run. Uses .357 ammunition - and is really good. Has a fast fire-rate, and a increased Critical Chance! You can't put any weapon mods on it though, but it already comes with the Long Barrel modification.

You can find it at the Bison Steve Hotel (in Primm). It is at the gift shop, behind a Hard (level 75) locked safe.

What? Hunting shotgun + mods + Shotgun Surgeon + And Stay Back = Totally OP.

Use slugs, and DT won't matter. Shotguns in this game are incredibly versatile and useful weapons. The most versatile gun in the game is the hunting shotgun with mods, but you need handloader to fully support it.

You need to waste 2 perks to make shotguns viable, which still gives you a less accurate and more tedious submachine gun. Dinner Bell with all generalist damage increases + shotgun surgeon gives you 12.8 damage per pellet +10 DT negation. Since shotgun damage is applied per pellet the maximum DT negation you can get is 22.8, not 89.3.

Meanwhile, Vance's 9mm Submachine Gun with all generalist perks + Grunt gets 24.5 damage per round. The unique version of the weakest centerfire automatic weapon out-DPS's the best shotgun in the game by a large margin (445.5 DPS).

Using slugs defeats the purpose of carrying a shotgun in the first place. You're better off finding a marksman's carbine if you want versatility... since it uses the most common round in the game.

Again, what cowboy do you know runs around with a street sweeper?

Lucky is good as it has a slightly higher critical chance, but it uses .357 ammunition and it kinda falls short in damage and penetration for late game, which is unfortunate because it's quite a pretty gun.

Every single one of them, historically. Just because the perk doesn't apply bonuses to a high tier weapon doesn't make it any less 'cowboy' to have a full stock 12 gauge.

Doc Holliday used a shotgun at the gunfight at the OK corral.

I don't know if people have mentioned. TC is running around with the medicine stick.

the ranger sequioa uses the same ammo which is mildly rare.

I prefer the police pistol to Lucky except you'd need a mod to add it to the cowboy list. due to the nature of DLC. you can't add DLC items to base game perks without a mod not because its not intended to be part of the set.

the game only has so many revolvers. ignoring the base variants because the legendary ones are better.

Lucky
mysterious magnum
That Gun
Ranger Sequioa
Police Pistol.

Lucky is decent but not high enough damage to be used seriously, with the slow reload rate. .357 rounds with a good hand load variant.

the magnum has poor durability and accuracy.

That gun is pretty cool uses .556 so its good for piercing armor. counts for cowboy perk so its probably a revovler.

the Sequioia uses the same ammo as the medicine stick I would consider it redundant.

and the police pistol does not count as a cowboy weapon, but it reloads all its bullets with one animation due to a speed loader which is why I like it.

but you need cowboy expanded for it to be added to the weapon list of cowboy perks.

I think he fired three rounds from that double barrel.:steamhappy:

If you have to have a shotgun with a cowboy build, the Cowboy perk does work on the lever-action shotgun. It may only be a 20ga. but that is the only shotgun that gets a boost from the Cowboy perk, could make it a bit more worthwhile.

The lever-action shotgun also happens to be quite a powerful weapon, but needs lots of repairing and maintenance.

That's a break-action double-barrel shotgun, not a drum-fed semi-automatic Riot Shotgun.

AGAIN,
