Why does this game have so many invisible walls?
I'm not trying to be that guy but I can't help to notice that so many times i go up a moutain to take alternate route and it just won't let me. Am I the only person with this problem?

Many people were bothered by that, so someone created a solution:

Ive only encountered a couple of them that dont seem like they need to be there.

I would like to cut across from Boulder to Hoover Dam.

And a shortcut up the mountain from Vault 22.

There are a few others that could be questionable.

I like the walls that are there for the most part. I just don't like that they're invisible. If I can't get somewhere I don't want to think spending my next five minutes trying is a good idea. But for the most part, they're there so that you experience certain areas in an order that makes sense for the intended design.

According to the Devs, they thought people would be more concerned with the horrible draw distance of Gamebryo being extremly apparant at high altitudes.

It's never been much a problem for me because I haven't felt much need to spastically jump up a mountain looking for the little hitches of collision.

Just be careful removing all the invisiwalls --that last step is a muthafudger. O.o
Aaaaahhhhhhhhh--kersplat (more than likely glitch fall).

It's not a problem, it's a game design. Obsidian didn't want people to be able to take shortcuts, the walls are there in order to direct players through certain pathways.

It makes the game feel linear in my opinion. I don't care for it. I see what they were trying to do but it's annoying not being to go up a hill because "video game"

The "Hill" is a mountain and the only way you're actually running into the walls is if you repeatedly jump at the spotty collision of rocks to get up there.
Rule of thumb: If you have to mash Spacebar, you're not supposed to be there to begin with.

I do find the invisible walls around the super mutant village on Black Mountain to be legitmately intrusive though; because in that case there actually is what would otherwise appear to be an actual path that doesn't require abusing the jump button.

Yes, that's pretty much the only time they got on my nerves as well, I wanted to sneak around the back but rather than the heavily-guarded gatge but was hindered by invisible walls. There really wasn't any need to put them in that place.

How many video games do you know of that aren't linear? The vast majority of them have you follow a distinct path that you can't deviate from. At least Obsidian allowed for some free movement outside the story lines, that's a lot more than most developers do.
