Mp3s on Modded Radio. [SOLVED]
EDITED FOR SOLUTION:
My .mp3s were coded fine. I believe all it needs is to be 128 or 256 kbps CBR (constant bit rate). My problem was that in the GECK your song names need to have braces round them, which you can load up any of the vanilla radio station quests to see what I mean. This is only in the GECK, not your files on your computer.

There was a tutorial that advised against brackets but I believe that only stops .wav files working, and it is needed for .mp3s.

Original post:
Started making my own radio station from scratch using some tutorials on-line. They all say to use .wav files and .mp3s are dodgy, but .wav files are huge and Radio New Vegas uses .mp3s, so I'm wondering does anyone know how to get .mp3s working.

See, I've actually used Jarol's Radio New Vegas Extender and put 250 songs (mp3s) into Radio New Vegas and they all work perfectly, even the .ogg files that play on the radios in the wasteland, but using the exact same process, my custom radio station plays the one .mp3 I've added for testing, and after about 5 seconds it stops, waits a moment, and plays the first few seconds again, in a loop.

Could be a GECK thing I've done wrong, but the warnings made me think .mp3 encoding.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Added Jingle Jangle from Radio New Vegas and it does the same thing, so it's a mistake in my GECK editing. If anyone's familiar with how to do this or has run into this problem, would love the help. Thanks.

I'll start off by saying it's been a long while since I've touched on this subject and my memory is pretty foggy, but I know how frustrating it is to look for an answer and not find one. That said, the GECK needs you to put [brackets] or {braces} around the text in the song entry to let it know that it's an MP3 - which, I can't remember, so experiment as needed.

In addition - though, your post suggests you might already know this - you'll need to include mono OGG files in the same folder as your songs titled "(Original file name)_mono" in order for radio objects to properly play the track.

Is that really it! Holy Mary, I would never have tried that! moreover as one of the radio tutorials advised against it. But then, they advised against using .mp3s entirelyas well. Maybe they'd tried braces with .wav files and that was the exact problem.

I knew about the .ogg files but thanks all the same. I'll try this and post back.

I'm pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ elated. It works. I can-not begin to thank you enough. Or curse Bethesda enough, because...what the feck. And as I'm on the topic, let me curse the internet as well because how is this not all over the place at this point.

Thanks a million.

Listen, sorry to do this Gordon, but you seem to be the only person I can find that knows about modding radios. Would you have any idea why on my custom radio (made from scratch), it will eventually just not load any more songs. Usually after about 20 or so. At some point, one of the songs will end normally, and it will then just not load the next one. Sometimes saving and loading fixes it. Other times not. Is there a limit or something? I have 250 songs on my mod from Jarol's Radio New Vegas extender, and it works great. 25 custom songs and then Mr New Vegas speaks, and then 25 more custom songs, and so on and so forth. Any ideas on the difference?
