You may want to reload if you don't want to resurrect the guy using the console. I don't see why you'd be adverse to 'cheating' in this situation, it may be your best option if you have no recent saves. Or you could live with the consequences of your actions.

using console in fallout isn't cheating .......wait for a bugged mission! .....you can as mentioned reload but if auto is off that could be costly ......personal choice but after having the series years.......get to know the console ....not to cheat (of course you CAN) but mission reset and progression are worthwhile to know ijs

You can use the console for cheating; say if you added 10 Barter skills books to give yourself a boost. But if you use it to revert something you didn't mean for to happen, saving yourself time because you don't have a recent save; that's convenience.

Well, if you're going to cheat and give yourself Barter books, why not just make it permanent and type player[dot]setav barter 100
