Spoilers - Ain't nothin' but a hound dog

When you finish this quest the courier says to Rex "Feeling better now boy?" but you really didn't save Rex. You killed him, threw away his brain and replaced him with a new dog in the same body (in my case Violetta). Thoughts?

What really happens is that his old memories meld with the memories of his new brain (which I guess is the result of him somehow keeping his memories, whether it is his robotic state, the doctor’s doing, or just Fallout wackiness). So no, you aren’t killing him, you’re just merging him with another, now deceased dog.

Basically a portion of his brain doesn't work, so you're filling that portion up from another brain that does.

There's a lot of oversights with various elements of plot and whatnot in Fallout. Like the bugs, it's really just part of the game. I suppose I wouldn't have minded if someone stuck fixes in a community patch or something, but I don't really care at this point. It's just fun to go around unit wiping entire gangs or whatever. At least, that's how I see it.

But yes--that is clearly some kind of oversight.

I think it's less oversight and more handwaved with the whole "cyberdog" thing

I think that the identy of the dog and subsequently the semi ability to control it is more the function of the cybernetics and the brain is more used for the processing or the doggy parts. Sort of like using a different piece of hardware in your computer. So all the brains function in the same basic fashion, but the difference in the brains are reflected in the perks the dog obtains.

It's fallout logic and technology. Merging memories and personalities are not rare cases.

Rex gain new fresh brain and new ability from his new brain's former self. And viloletta's personality and memory still live on with rex's life.
