Does reporting the Van Graffs turn them hostile?
I was doing a quest for Cass, which gave me the choice of killing or reporting the Van Graffs and the crimson caravans, and i decided to find proof. Afterwards, in freeside i keep being attacked by the Van Graff. is this a bug or are they supposed to be hostile? does wiping them out have any negative effects?

It is not a bug, reporting them makes them hostile. Word gets around.

Yes. Wiping them out has the negative effect of depriving you of a reliable energy weapon and ammo merchant, who you can actually get favorable prices from if you treat them with respect. I don't even see the point in reporting them, really, and Cass requiring positive karma means there's a 99% chance that I can't keep her around, anyway.

I think if you take them out, Gunrunners will carry the few unique energy weapons there are. Given that the weapons they're selling are usually in low condition to begin with, I've never purchased from them. Though I don't usually take Cass as a companion, I never have a problem with the Van Graffs. But I still never deal with them. Mainly because you can't trade with them, only purchase and I hate that. Between Gunrunners/Alexander and the traveling merchants, I never have a need to deal with them.

As far as energy weapon ammo, Bardon at Hoover Dam and the Great Khan's lady merchant have far more ammo than Van Graffs do.

If you kill everyone from the Silver Rush that's outside, they won't respawn so you won't have to deal with them anymore.

They don't unfortunately. The GRA weapons are only ever transferred to the Gunrunner's Vendortron if the other GRA vendors were killed before GRA is even installed, which basically means never for those of us who have it running from the start of the game, which I'd imagine is pretty much everyone these days.

I always preferred to "accidentally" let the guy with explosives walk through the door if I wanted to off the van graffs.

The only real downside is that you can't trade with them or complete their questline. Since I'm pretty sure you have to kill Cass for them, there is a strong chance you won't complete their quests anyways, and you can always buy whatever you need from them before you report them. You can also freely loot all the gear they have laying around and sell it for profit.

Yes it does, Funnily enough, it also turns Simon, and the Crier on the corner hostile, I had returned to the Vegas Strip and was walking down the road, and the crier open fire on me, and I actually think the kings (who I had joined) attacked him, then Simon (the door guard) came running twords me, and I was forced to kill him, I entered the shop, and everyone opened fire, and when it was over Cass had a similar reply to if you kill them for the brotherhood after already agreeing to find evidence, and I reloaded the save before turning them in to save me the headache of her possibly demanding I go murder the caravan lady.

I really would like a source on this. If you say the wikia I wanna know what their source is, because I searched a bit and couldn't find where they got it from.
Either way I just hope killing the Van Graffs after doing Heartache By The Number peacefully doesn't affect the ending with Cass. If it does I'm calling ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Going to necro this thread in 2022 to annoy those ♥♥♥♥♥ who get riled up from necros. :lunar2019piginablanket:

Anyway, this is a terribly programmed quest in this game, nothing else, nothing more.

The fact that a freakin town crier attacks you says a lot. They really didn't think this one through, cause basically you're an idolized god armed to the teeth, working for House (the man in charge of Vegas) and Van Graffs decide to start attacking you out in the open, fearing no repercussions from the only guy to have ever met House. Genius level of programming/writing there.

Just wipe them out and get the sweet sweet loot. Like others have said, you can buy energy stuff from other sources as well. Cassidy quest basically is one of the weakest and lamest parts of this game.
