ReShade vs. ENB
Does anyone else use ReShade as opposed to ENB for Fallout NV?

For the longest time I've only used ENB presets for my lighting and visuals (along with HD textures) and the game has looked amazing, but the performance hit was always huge.

Even now. On a i7-4790k overclocked to 4.6ghz, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1080Ti, the performance hit with Dynamo ENB is unbelievable. Constant flucuations from 60 to 40 fps (it wouldn't be bad if it was constant, but its literal stutter), and I know the ENB is to blame, because when I disable the ENB, I get a solid 60 FPS no problem, and this is after messing around with the ENB local files to enable ENB boost and adjust the VRAM settings and whatnot.

So I just tried ReShade and wow...I can't believe I didn't try ReShade sooner. It's almost the same effect as ENB, minus the massive performance hit (in fact there appears to be no performance hit whatsoever) AND with the added bonus of in-game AA (ENB conflicts with AA settings, so even though everything looks nice, you always have jaggies). Why didn't I use this sooner? I don't even think I'm going to need SweetFX.

Anyone else use ReShade? Have any presets you want to share?

I prefer ENB but it crashes my game all the time lol

There's no real comparison between ENB and ReShade. ENB hacks the game's engine to make effects like ambient occlusion and completely alter the lighting effects. ReShade just changes the colors and can add some depth buffer effects such as depth of field and ambient occlusion, but they are deeply flawed, clip with the interface, and use a much messier injection method than ENB. The only games I played where the depth buffer effects actually didn't mess up the game (particularly, depth of filed) were the Dead Space games, and that's because they have no real interface.

Also, you can enable edge anti-aliasing in ENB settings. It's not as good as MSAA, but it's much less performance intensive.

Overall, ENB is much higher quality and can apply a lot more effects. Getting the actual same look with ReShade is impossible, and even getting as close as you can will be a bit of a mess. I'd recommend using ENB if you can find a better preset.

Man, I've used dozens of presets (even some specifically from Fallout 3) and yeah I've tweaked the settings as well. Including the EdgeAA and MSAA, to little effect (but with a huge performance hit).

Yes, ReShade is definitely a full injection shader. Covering everything, including the HUD (especially if you enable DOF), but it honestly doesn't bother me too much. I'd rather have a blurry HUD with nice graphical effects at 60 FPS, than some "meh" graphical effects with zero AA at 60-40 FPS. But that's just my opinion. Like I stated, I've tried dozens of ENB presets and I can never find one that I really like. Dynamo is about the closest, and the performance hit is crazy heavy, yet I can get the same effect with Reshade (vignette, DOF, film grain, etc.) For zero performance loss.

I'll try to post screenshots later, but this is what I mean:

Might want to consider checking out ReShade 3.0 then. Almost the same effect for zero performance loss and the added benefit of ingame AA

I dislike both of them.

ENB is a resource hog, I hate the flickering that happens when you enter menus (I know it's by design. Still, I can't stand it), transparency issues... To be honest, it only looks good for screenshots.

ReShade also affects UI, so if you ramp up the blurriness or FXAA then expect UI to also be blurred.

What I did for myself is to make a custom image space modifier via GECK that is applied once the game is started. That way I get prettier colors, contrast, motion blur (yes, I like motion blur) and other stuff all with zero performance cost and it's game engine friendly.

Could you share your reshade preset? I've had enough with enb

I ended up opting for ENB. Its been a year later and I've finally fixed up an ENB preset that works with the Stutter Remover that doesn't cause performance issues.

That reshade preset belonged to someone else. I shared those images because I was looking for a preset that was similar. I never found one like that though.
