Male or Female?

I'm about to start this game for the first time and I was wondering the differences depending on gender. Romances, perks, quests, etc what are differences between playing either gender.

Also what mods are there for character customization and creation?

If you want female you can have the black widow perk which can seduce men into diffrent choices and you have another perk that also does i think its 10% more damage against men but if you pick male you dont have black widow and do i think its 10% damage against females so nothing really that diffrent but diffrent perks hope you have fun!

There isn't much of a major difference between male or female in terms of quests & stuff. The biggest change I noticed is that the Legion is pretty frosty towards women player characters. In their society men are the ones that do the fighting. So they aren't too keen on a lady helping them w/ military actions. But you can win them over eventually.

As for characer customization, there are a ton of hairstyle & race mods out there. I personally like to keep the vanilla feel to my game, so I'd recommend this:

The two differences that come to mind are this, there's a single character whose a lesbian and tells you off if you hit on her while if you're a guy. The major evil faction in the game Caesar's legion will also be quite dismissive of you if you join with them. You can still do it of course but you'll be talked down to quite heavily.

A woman can't fight in the legion arena, but that's the only feature blocked off for a woman (and the arena is only 3 fights).

Otherwise the difference in gender is all in dialogue options and alternate paths for quests. For one you can sleep with this guy you need to kill as a woman and get him in his private quarters alone to kill him easily. There's minor things like that which will change quest paths basically.

Male gets slightly more content, but Female clothing looks slightly cooler and Mr. New Vegas's dialogue will make slightly more sense to some people.
Edit: I have one male and one female character, it's mostly just cosmetic.

no, you can actually play as a female character without any mods needed at all, you get to choose after you select a name for it

Anyway, I personally play as my own gender in RPGs like this, which is female.

It's so hard to find armor mods for the vanilla female body.

Jokes aside, I've seen a lot of women's armor on Nexus. Suitable for the Vanilla body and / or for the Type 3, 4 and 6. I don't think it is difficult to find something suitable. I am not familiar with these mods because it is very rare that I use armor for the character, I like clothes. The uniform I usually use is from a mod and doesn't protect much, but it adds +3 to Charisma and +2 Agility

I've never worn a thong before, but I do get what you mean. I do like some of the clothes but dresses aren't very good at blocking bullets.
Types 3, 4, and 6 are body replacers and I don't use any.
