Fallout: New Vegas
Best Ending for the Future of the Mojave
What ending in the base game do you guys think would be the best for Vegas and the Mojave?

I personally think independent is the way to go.

NCR is obviously spread too thin and pretty corrupt, although they mean well.

Caesar's philosophy is genius but when talking to him and Lanius they seem to want to conquer the entire NCR, which I think is an impossibility as the farther they go into NCR territory the more powerful the resistance will be. This will spread the Legion thin.

House seems to only care about money and although he'd bring a lot of security to the wasteland, he seems to work for his interests and I personally don't like being an errand boy.

If you go with Yes Man and keep the Boomers, destroy the Khans and BoS, fully upgrade the securitrons and get all the casinos in your pocket then you'll have a powerful army, increased trade, less chem trafficking (khans) and not many people willing to resist you. Then you can dispatch your securitrons all over and extinguish any remaining threats and establish trade routes and ♥♥♥♥.

The only possible problem is Yes Man backstabbing you because of what he says at the end of the independent battle of Hoover Dam.

why are people still necroing this 3+ years old thread?

Because it's the main plot element of the game, the big choice, and is no less relevant to players of the game than it was 3 years ago.
The secret ending is best ending, kill them all and let god sort them out!
Make the Mojave like it was meant to be, wipe the slate clean. XD

I've been replaying the game a bit after some years, and I just wanted to give my two cents.

For the sake of my sanity, I'm just going to say right out of the gate that in no way am I saying "I'm right, everyone else is wrong"; the whole point of this game is to make up your own mind on what you think is right, so this is just my understanding.

The way I'll be doing this is, I'll compare each and every ending, done with either the Mr. House or the Yes Man route (since this is already very time consuming, and the Independent ending is very popular among fans of the game), and every time either side has a better ending for each scenario, I'll assign that side one "Ending Point". At the end of all this, whichever route has the most EP, they're determined the better ending. I'll also explain why I think whatever I assign points to deserves it, and why the other option doesn't. If they're pretty much the same, no points will be awarded. I'll also not be covering endings that aren't affected by which faction you side with.

INDEPENDENT: You and Yes Man take over the Strip, with upgraded securitrons. For a while, the streets are chaotic and disorderly. Securitrons kill those causing trouble with minimal loss of life.
HOUSE: The Strip is essentially the same, just without the NCR military police present.
VERDICT: These endings for the Strip aren't that different, but with House, a takeover isn't really necessary, because he already owns it, resulting in less conflict and death. +EP for House

INDEPENDENT: The Courier rules over the Strip, gaining fame as the one responsible for pushing out all other powers.
HOUSE: The Courier is awarded with every luxury at Mr. House's disposal, and Vegas is ensured to be safe and secure for future generations.
VERDICT: Since Mr. House clearly lays out a logical plan for the future and safety of Vegas to you, I think he ends up being the better option. There's too much uncertainty with Yes Man here. +EP for House

INDEPENDENT: The Boomers stay xenophobic, and continue to defend their base from any prospectors.
HOUSE: The Boomers eventually started travelling out of their base to trade with travelers.
VERDICT: Neither ending is really clearly good or bad, but I think it's better if the Boomers open up to the world more. +EP for House

INDEPENDENT: The Brotherhood allow the NCR to leave the Mojave peacefully under their peace treaty, and peace follows. They eventually start travelling the wastes, harassing anyone over any bits of tech they had.
HOUSE: The Mojave Brotherhood chapter is completely destroyed, with those who survived settling into new lives, or heading west to find a new chapter.
VERDICT: While it is probably annoying for the people of the Mojave to deal with the Brotherhood's meddling, genocide isn't the answer. +EP for Independent

INDEPENDENT: Veronica is saddened by the Brotherhood's new campaign of aggression on the highways, and after joining up with the Followers of the Apocalypse, decides she was better off leaving them. She takes to the road to leave everything behind.
HOUSE: Veronica is devastated by the destruction of the Brotherhood's bunker. For one final goodbye, she makes a last trip to the bunker to pay her respects.
VERDICT: Mr. House makes Veronica sad that her whole family is dead. + EP for Independent

INDEPENDENT: The Followers of the Apocalypse find anarchic Vegas is even more chaotic than before. They struggle to deal with even basic injuries with the influx of patients.
HOUSE: No ending made for the Followers, they're presumably how they were before.
VERDICT: The Followers are probably better off without more people getting shot than average. +EP for House

INDEPENDENT: Arcade Gannon, while finding an independent Vegas isn't all that he had hoped, tries to help the locals govern themselves.
HOUSE: Arcade is pissed off that House won at Hoover Dam, and eventually left Vegas entirely, settling in California to work happily as a family doctor.
VERDICT: Arcade settling in the Boneyard happily being a family doctor is better than him struggling to keep Freeside under control. +EP for House

INDEPENDENT: Goodsprings thrives with the increased traffic to Vegas, and the locals grew prosperous.
HOUSE: Mr. House sends Victor to Goodsprings as thanks for helping the Courier, but he turns out to be a mixed blessing.
VERDICT: The Yes Man route is better is pretty much every way here. +EP for Independent

INDEPENDENT: Cass lived to see the Courier take down three armies, but that was three more than she expected.
HOUSE: Cass witnessed Vegas in it's full old-world glory, says to the Dam, and herself, that "We were going full speed ahead... but facing backwards the whole time".
VERDICT: I just want to clear something up here; Cass does not kill herself in the Mr. House route. That doesn't make any sense. She's most likely just leaving everything behind and had a last thing to say before she left. I'm not awarding points to either ending.

INDEPENDENT: The Kings make Freeside safer, with even NCR refugees finding their way there.
HOUSE: Mr. House ordered the Kings to leave Freeside after suspecting they had ties to the NCR. The Kings defy, and are killed to the last man.
VERDICT: The important thing to note here is that the Kings can survive the House route; you just have to incite all-out war between them and the NCR. However, this makes them kind of hate the NCR, causing them to attack innocent NCR citizens and soldiers, most likely leading to more deaths, so in Mr. House's case, unfortunately, it's probably better if they all died. Of course, I'm still giving it to the Independent route for being better in every way. +EP for Independent

Let's see the results.
INDEPENDENT: 4 Ending Points
HOUSE: 5 Ending Points

This just goes to show how much it matters in this game what you think of things. You could decide a little differently for any of these options and which ending is "better" to you would completely change. For example, you could decide the Brotherhood had to be destroyed, and the consequences don't matter. This would make the Mr. House route win in an almost landslide victory.

In the end, in my opinion, the Mr. House route just barely takes the cake for the best ending for New Vegas.

to be fair the BoS and the enclave aren't the good guys. They're pretty much been the worst of the old world charms ethics and values. BoS know the tech is bad and wanna just hoarde it like hoarders. They really don't wanna help reform the world for fear of it happening again meaning they're cowards.

Enclave just wanted to rebuild, rinse and repeat while learning little to nothing about history and why the bomb droppings happened. They wanna do this by any means necessary and still act like they're not cowards and the leading authority figures with their advanced hoarded tech and suits.
They knew the bombs would drop and just left everyone else to fend for themselves and allowed vault-tec to pretty much screw over their vault dwelers with WWII German styled experiments that are more cruel than helpful / beneficial towards humanity (even though it'd for sure help house learning / knowing about how humans would survive under situational conditions it's not really worth it overall).

I'm glad the enclave were mostly dropped after NV because you can't really make them out to be the good guys while the BoS FO3 elder tried to reform the BoS but the outcasts pretty much roam the outskirts making anyone entering to be harassed into reliquishing any tech or be killed. BoS you can't really get rid of them and they're ambiguous enough / fluid or flexible enough to kill them while having them re-appear (how can you have like 100 enclave settlements when it was just a handful of elites? At most 1-3 vaults AT MOST since anymore you wouldn't need them or it'd be mostly empty / overkill).

If you disregard those people associated with them you'll add more towards house good points while also the NCR and legion. Yes man is just ignore them hopefully they'll die out and focus on the strip and hoover dam 100%.

I'd always give it to a good karma Courier yes-man ending. Courier clearly demonstrates all necessary skills needed to run a state when they out-politik every other faction.

But the courier doesn't actually rule the strip, only a more assertive yes-man akin to house
Independent with a 10 INT courier with the technology of Big MT as his disposal will turn the Mojave into the most civilized and safest place in the world.

Also Yes Man will never go Skynet or anything, him becoming more assertive means that he will only take orders from you and no one else so that way some random person can't just walk up to him and say he's the new boss now like you pretty much did after killing Benny.
