Question about timescale
I was having stability issues with my game and went looking online for possible solutions. Long story short, I happened to find a forum post that said altering the game's timescale reduced the stability of the engine. Is this true? I changed my timescale back to the default 30 and haven't had a crash in quite a while, but I don't know if changing the timescale resolved the issue or if I've just gotten lucky.

I use timescale=10 and have only had a few crashes in the past couple hundred hours so I doubt it makes a difference at all.

You can "set timescale to 1" to get real time play and it shouldn't cause any problems. (shouldn't). However, since the world is scaled down .. I use 5.
I've used 1 before but feel it just makes the days and nights too long.
The game is usually set to a default of 20 which means 1 minute = 20 minutes. (this may be only true though as in Fallout 4 and Skyrim).
I use walking as a reference to time scale matching.
I'm not using any mods and no special tweaks. My graphics run fine on Ultra by default.

The earlier games, including New Vegas, use a time scale of 30. And yes, setting it too low can cause problems, such as with quests and NPC interactions. It can throw the timing of those types of things right off.

Changing the timescale does have a reputation of breaking stuff like quests and AI packages. It is safe to assume that the game was developed and tested with the default timescale in mind. I wouldn't change it too much from the default value.
