Why is it so hard to repair weapons?
Seriously, I have recently got this game and I really do love it so much, but there is one huge annoyance that really bothers me with this game, just repairing weapons and armor in general. I recently got the plasma caster, which is an amazing plasma weapon, but like three hours later after getting it it literally just broke and its condition went down that fast. Ok no big deal, I'll go and repair it, I'm guessing it'll cost around 400-500 caps which is reasonable. No, I head up to mojave outpost and speak with major knight and it cost 14,000 caps just to repair my plasma caster. What the ♥♥♥♥? How am I supposed to even repair it then? Also my T45 power armor cost around 3500 caps just to repair it a quarter of the way. Also my tri-beam laser rifle broke and it costs around 10,000 caps to repair aswell. Am I missing something, if not then this is just terrible design and I really have no idea how to repair my stuff.

Get the jury rigging perk, it makes repairing laughably easy.

Yea but the problem is that perk requires a repair of 90 to get, and my repair (as of lvl 13) is only 47, so its gonna be a long time before I can unlock jurry rigging, is their anything else I can do?

Weapon repair kits can help, they're fairly inexpensive if I recall correctly.

Put 3 points into it when you next level up, and start picking up Duct tape, scrap electronics scrap metal, wonderglue and wrenches to make your own weapon repair kits.

The plasma caster is a pretty high tier weapon. Of course it's gonna be hard to repair at your level, even late game as well.
Weapon repair kits are good. They aren't that expensive, especially compared to when people repair the weapon for you, and can be made with some decently common materials.
If you have lonesome road, play until you find a broken eye bot and get the upgrade. Basically a free repair kit every day if you have ED-E.
Repair is a pretty valuable skill in F:NV. You should always consider having a high amount of it. And jury rigging is probably one of the best perks in the game, not to mention the other perks you can get with it.
Oh, and there's a companion that can help you keep your weapons at high quality. That's all I'll say.

Nah repairing is easy in New Vegas. Also, it's easy to get boat loads of caps except for the very early game.

The prices for repairing weapons will improve as your reputation with the persons faction goes up and your repair skill ( I think ) , most not so rare weapons can also just be reparied by combining two or several, where your repair skill makes a diiference

Tri beam laser rifles are scattered everywhere on Super Mutants near the citadel.... Kappa

I suggest finding a unique rifle such as the Q-35 or AER14 as these rifles come with high damage, and can be repaired with normal versions of the base rifle. The plasma caster is somewhat of a heavy weapon, made even more complicated by the rarity of it outside of shops.

Power armour sucks in FO:NV because it weighs a load and doesn't offer that much protection. In my honest opinion, Combat armour, reinforced and MKII are better, but if you insist on derping around in what is essentially a large walking tank, go right ahead. Getting friendly with the Brotherhood will permit you access to more power armour, which you can then use to repair with.

I commend you for making it into power armour at level 13, but I would suggest toning it back a bit on the heavy armour and firepower, as these things are really best left until you have supporting skills to allow their use.

If you have lonesome road the best choice is the elite riot gear, it has good dt and really good passive effects, especially for a crit build. If you insist on using power armor yuo should probaly use remnants or gannon family power armor as most others have just slightly higher dt than the best combat armors/riot gears

Jury rigging would allow you to repair it with flamers and incinerators and gatling lasers. I think. I use gatling lasers. (and repair them with flamers and incinerators.

Old world blues gives you a ton of weapon repair kits. Dead money gives you an unlimited amount of weapon repair kits. i think dead money gives you like 1100 chips a day after completion and weapon repair kits cost ...20?

each weapon repair kit heals the gun for 12-25% depending on repair skill.

you can craft them normally with 50 repair skill. 2 scrap metal 1 scrap electronic 1 duct tape 1 wonderglue....maybe I'm forgetting something.
function9 Feb 11, 2017 @ 6:45pm
^ + 1 wrench. And for DM, it also gives 100 chips + 1000 chip voucher every few days after completion.

Don't let your gear deteriorate that far. As soon as the condition starts to lower its damage/DPS/DR, repair it. Whether with repair kits, other weapons or armor, or by someone. Even early in the game you'll come across repair kits and people that can repair.

There's a vendor at Nellis Air Force Base that will have a steady supply of them, and they aren't very expensive. But it would be a lot cheaper if you just make your own. The components for them are very easy to come by, and all you need is a Repair skill of 50.
MannsOverMeta Feb 11, 2017 @ 7:03pm
I checked and I saw that repair kits cost 20 chips in DM. Combine that with the 1100 free chips every few days and it grouping up, you can get 55 kits in one resupply. Not to mention the 308. and 357. rounds you can get.
Landor Feb 11, 2017 @ 7:43pm
vendortron at the gun runners also carries components for kits, ten of ether scrap metal, electronics, wrenches, duct tape, glue, or turpentine each resupply.

which one is random, and turpentine isnt used in making kits, but if you go there consistantly to sell items and buy ammunition, getting a supply of components is easy.

you can get your repair skill up which i beleive slows how fast your stuff breaks. also there is a companion whos perk slows it as well.and if the plasma caster is breaking to fast use lower teir wepons unless you come across a situation that you really need it.
