The default value is 15, but you can double them to 30. After that you'll have to max out your sliders in the game's options screen again, and things will appear a little further out in the game. Increasing those values beyond 30 will have no effect.
You'll only get a slight improvement though, as the distance view is limited by how many grids are being rendered in the game at any one time. That's controlled by the uGridstoLoad setting in the ini file, which is 5 by default. You don't really want to increase that though as it will make your game unstable and add an extra load to your video card.
That does nothing for how far out things like shubbery will appear in the game.
