Memory Leak?
Hello everyone, So I've played this save for about 50+ hours, 60 FPS solid(55- in some heavy areas) with no stuttering, then all of a sudden my game decides that it wants to run at ~17 FPS. I tried PCB in the console but that didn't help, I disabled a mod that I didn't need but that didn't help either I looked at task manager and FNV was using 826,000k of Memory and when the game would lag it will shoot up to 930,000+k. Any fixes? This has happened before on my old PC and I just quit playing untill I had a new PC, but now it's happening again and I am not going to let this stop me from playing. Thanks for any help

I have the save where the FPS is screwed, but the older save that isn't, I can play that fine up until I get to about where the most recent save is and the FPS screws itself again. Not sure if that makes sense but that's what happens

With a vanilla game this would be odd, but seeing as how you're modding the game I'd bet your memory issue is related to a mod.

That's an issue with save bloating then. I don't know of any solutions, but try looking it up.
I made an edit to the OP, I appologize, I was reading the Memory usage wrong in Task Manager. Maybe that will clear anything up?

@Oddy Boi

The only time I suffered anything like what you described, I deduced it was down to the installation of the Project Nevada mod; specifically the 'Rebalance' module.

^^^ Nothing I can see there that should cause lag over time, in my admittedly limited opinion. You do have NVSE installed, yeah?

A well known modder suggests an .ini tweak to help combat memory leak/bloating connected to cell purging. **PLEASE** backup your config files before attempting the following, just in case it messes up things further:

open all three of your .ini files, fallout_default.ini , FALLOUT.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini

In each one search for and change

bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=0 to bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1

bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=0 to bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=1"

I do have NVSE yes, but isn't that the same as just doing PCB in the console?

^^^ possibly, not 100% sure. I'm not au fait with the console, I tend to avoid it so that achievements aren't nullified.

Other than that, I'm out if ideas. Sorry bud.

Long way around of course - deactivate likely mods one at a time and see if that rectifies the matter.

PurgeCellBuffers and the mods that automatically execute it are useless at best and potentially harmful at worst. Don't ever use them. Enable the engine's built-in purge system by modifying your .ini files as suggested instead.

I tried editing the ini files, I went in game seemed to be working smoothly, but as soon as i fast traveled the game went back to low fps. Not sure what to do at this point, quite frustrating to be honest :/

Hmm, odd. Check the .ini files where you edited. Have the values changed since you edited them? I personally set my .ini files to 'read only' after making those edits, so that they won't be liable to reset after the game loads... not sure if that is good practice though.

Yeah I checked and they weren't changed

Those mods could lead to some pretty substantial performance impact, especially if you have followers who "got lost" and are just idle someplace.
