When to play DLC?
Playing this for the first time and I was wondering when is the best time to play each dlc. I've heard that some wait until beating the main campaign before doing some of the dlc and others before the last quest or when you're at the suggested level.

Also Dead Money or Old World Blues first? Honest Hearts seems like the one to do first and Lonesome Road the one to do last.

If you beat the main campaign then the game is over, and you're sent back to the main menu; you can't play after the game unless you get CAGE or something.
You can play the dlc's whenever, even at the beginning but it's best to do so when you choose a faction.

Here's the order of story importance, since the dlc's are all connected:
1: Honest Hearts
2: Old World Blues
3: Dead Money
4: Lonesome Road

Honest hearts doesn't have much to any tie ins but it's great to do early especially for the loot.

Play in release order for optimal narrative effect: Dead Money -> Honest Hearts -> Old World Blues -> Lonesome Road

i agree with this.

you learn backstory about dead money and lonesome road in old world blues, and by doing OWB first it can help you understand stuff that happens later on.

i generaly go into the DLC after i have exausted the side content of the base game, and i think on average that puts me at level 35.

EDIT:

mmm, i dunno, but i will say doing dead money first can be a bit of a punch to the gut. if you like that, then great, but it can also turn you off continuing, i think that happened to me my first time playing.

Not true, It's just release order and not story order since they were working on them relatively at the same time so that's a terrible idea.

I'd probably agree on Old World Blues being before Lonesome road but that's about it.

I'm not saying play in that order because it's the release order. I'm saying play in that order because it's the story order. It just happens to also be the release order.

You could probably switch HH and DM, but other than that, the release order makes total sense.

If you like references to character and discover their past then do on the release order. But you must end with the Lonesome Road DLC
Eikku May 1, 2017 @ 8:24am
1. HH
2. OWB
3. DM
4. LR
This is my first time playing too. So i can't finish the final battle with Lanius, then complete the DLC in order? If so does LR take place after the final battle or before it?

I was also wondering if I should kill caesar before i start playing the DLC(no spoilers please)

Do the DLCs before ending the game, unless you have CAGE. The game was rushed so you can't play after the ending credits, although it was planned.

You can pop in and out of Lonesome road All you like so I usually get to the Underpass before doing the rest then coming back later with more stuff.
The High Ground May 1, 2017 @ 12:20pm
1. Honest Hearts (at early level)
2. Dead Money (with Bloody Mess, high melee or unarmed)
3. OWB
4. Lonesome Road (right before final quest)

What? How do you figure? Old World Blues has the Dead Money's character's journals and other stuff for backstory, and Honest Hearts has stuff relating mainly to the main game, so they should both go before DM. I agree with the first responder, HH,OWB,DM, then LR is the best way to play.

I think that discovering the background of some of the DM characters is better after you got to meet them.
My DLC playthrough order is HH>DM>OWB>LR
