The assassin's are pretty tough. Get a companion? Boone is good for killing legion.
Go hit a dlc to gain levels and avoid legion if you feel have it.
I got boone today and the perk is quite useful yep. But the morons are tanky even with AP ammo. I guess ill just evade them.
I'd recommend hitting the honest hearts dlc first because it's best for low level, keeps you away from legion, and you'll gain 5 levels by doing it. By the time you're back, legion assassins will be much easier.
I've only ever played the 3rd and didn't like it.
Just note there are many factions in this game, and you can be allies or enemies to them all. You can even join the legion and do quests for them.
Like I said, at a point in the main quest bad reputation with ncr and legion will reset ( you keep good rep though).
The main quest has 4 distinct faction sides to choose from, legion, ncr, Mr house and yes man (yes man is the fallback ending you can always do if you fail any of the other three, and it's the one with the most freedom for deciding what factions to ally with for the endgame ).
Also note that the game ends when the story is over (you get a big warning telling you it's gonna end ) so do everything you want to do before it ends (including dlc) and is recommend doing lonesome road dlc last (entrance is right by primm).
And every quest has like 4+ ways of completing them, some not so obvious. So just because somebody tells you to do something, doesn't necessarily mean do it or do it their way.
Just some random tips I think you should know.
I avoid fast travel when i can and always hoof it for the adventure so encounters with legion patrols always (mostly) work in my favour as i see them before they see me.
Boone and EDE Boone and EDE Boone and EDE nothing else needs to be said. get cover hold your ground pick off the guys who suicide run with melee and work on the rest with long range weapons (hunting rifle, bruth gun, anything with a scope) like stated above AP rounds are good but nothing will compete with a well placed 20 or 40 mike mike.
if you have the GRA expansion at the start of the game you get handed the most important tool the nad launcher. Hold onto it like its your dying mother for legion its a one way ticket to destination ♥♥♥♥♥♥. It will be hard to find ammo for it at first but a short cut to GRA weopan stand is do-able from lvl 1.
Myself on Hardcore high lvl i usually go at the legion with my riot shot gun loaded with legion coin buck shot. Seems fitting to wipe Ceaser's boys from the earth with his own coins.
Even if you explosives skill is low, you should still have a chance to cripple them with mines.
Boy did I learn that the hard way on my first play through. I fast traveled to the 188, legion assassins spawned and slaughtered every vendor there, including an unlucky caravan merchant who happened to be passing through.
After that I would just fast travel to locations that I knew had cazadore spawns nearby and kite the a-holes into each other.
I noticed quickly the different endings to every quest. The goodsprings fate depends on how you play it e.g. And in primms i put an NCR sheriff altough i rescued the guy from the NCRCF...I'm enjoying those details a lot.
The forced ending is quite a bummer tho...Although you have quick access to everything as compensation.
I do like the 25mm APW gun GRA adds for dealing with legion hit squads. but thats after I stopped giving a crap about them,
Usually just energy weapon them in the face, Max charge.
They're hard, because they're bugged. They'll get easier once you're the appropriate level.
also bombs do wonders
