is thermic lance op?

my strength is 10 and melee 100, I can deal 435 damage with that weapon (without any chems) and kill a deathclaw with one strike through VATS on hard difficulty, I haven't killed Benny nor faced any difficult enemies on other quests I've done and in other DLC-s, but isn't this weapon (a bit) overpowered? I obtained it very quickly and it's very durable

I got puzzled how fast you can get this extremely powerful weapon, like in tutorial after killing a gecko you get a weapon which can kill an ncr or legion soldier in one hit.

Do you have mods, because I've never gotten that weapon early in game. Like that's a weapon that usually brotherhood of steel guys have.

I'm lvl 36-37 and when I started DLC Lonesome Road I obtained that weapon quickly, I think in 20-30mins, in first 10 marked men I killed 2 of them had that weapon, haven't thought a regular enemy would have such powerful weapon, and I don't use any weapon mods or mods which make game easier

You are level 35+, you said that you could get the weapon almost instantly, but you got it on a high level in lonesome road. the marked men would not have it if you were a lower level, and they are quite though to kill if you've just gotten to Primm. The thermic lance is only otherwise found on higher level Legion assasins and if the other people on this thread are right, BoS paladins

I prefer normal melee weapons over high dps low dmg ones, like the ripper and thermic lance, as you can use the slayer perk and rushing water for almost double the dps

I wouldn't dare to start the DLC under lvl 20, lots of enemies with great weapons (machine guns, rocket launchers, antimaterial rifles...), getting there with lvl less than 15 is suicide

That's how it's balanced, there's good weapons but you have to kill the one using them to get them, you can however get basic riot gear and 1st rank of camrader-E in the first room in LR where there are no enemies, which can be broken as riot gear has 20+ DT and you can get it super early, provided you have the caps

Earliest I got the Thermic Lance was from a Legion assassin while going to Boulder City. Shot it out of his hands and burnt all his buddies with it.
It is OP but by the time you are supposed to get it every higher tier weapon is OP.

Its possible to get one within half hour or so of leaving Goodsprings as the BoS Vendor isn't levelled. She will happily sell top tier non-energy weapons to a level 1 character, you just need prior knowledge of the bunker and how to get in there, or to be incredibly pedantic with your exploration.

You will find yourself at the mercy of the RNG gods as to what she has in stock, though you will almost always find something absurdly overlevelled and a lot of fun. If theres no thermic lance on offer then theres a super sledge among the bunkers 'freebies'

Legion assasins can have thermic lances too.
