DayZ
Does anybody know if I can host using Tunngle?
I've heard rumours that you could get banned for making your own server using Tunngle, because the Dayz people don't want us making any cheats or whatever, I just want to make a server for myself so I can play alone and I can spawn what I want and when, I'd like to get used to the map, so I'm asking if anybody knows if its okay to make a server through tunngle for myself and if I'm not allowed to use Tunngle can I use another free software to make a lan server for myself to play on.

Thanks DayZ People

Without a hive, there shouldn't be any way to make a server, if you want to explore the map, the next bext thing would be using ARMA 2's editor - it's not exaclty the same map (Svelto is missing, a few other smaller villages too, other cities have been expanded, etc ), but it's pretty close. Not to mention you can spawn yourself anywhere you want on it or even fly over it etc.

If you don't own ARMA 2, there's always the free version.

You can currently not make your own server. Any files you find on the internet saying otherwise are false.

Do you think that the DayZ staff will let us make Lan Servers at some point? maybe when its not an Alpha?

Once server files are released you can make your own private server. Desktop pc's wont be good enough to do that though.

The servers we're playing on aren't hosted off of someone's everyday PC, they're usually part of larger data centres, thats why server Admins are actually just people who rented a server from a provider. There's just too much data to process for a desktop PC to keep a game like this running.

Actually, chances are pretty much every game you've played online in the last 10+ years has been hosted in this way, with a few exceptions.

Oh, I know this is off Topic but what about Rust? Its that the same as this?

Pretty much every massive multiplayer online game work the same way.

I don't play Rust, but it should be the same, yes. Normal PCs just can't handle the bandwith.

Look at some fiascos like Modern Warfare 2 where they refused to add dedicated servers and all matches were hosted from a randomly picked person in the lobby, it was awful. Now imagine something like that for a large scale game like DayZ or Rust, yah =p
