I played DZMOD 2 years after SA was out. It was a great decision. SA was a mess and I was still having a great time. In many ways DZMOD is better... but that is subjective.
SA, Looks and runs 1000Xs better. (in most cases) But BI is dropping the ball constantly. sure they update the game a few times a year, BUT doing so usually breaks other things. And to BI adding exciting new content is a can of mystery meat.
Vanilla cars are a MESS and it is a real bad inside joke. There are many cheaters on Vanilla servers, and the forums are heavily screened for almost any dissent.
MOD, it had 10 years to grow and no company telling it how to do it. In many ways I miss MOD. But I can never go back. You got a new pc that can run SA. PLAY SA. Just like mod There is 1000s of people that have 1000s of hours in game. I the game was so bad this would not be the case.
To better answer your ?? IMO it depends on what route you take when u hit up SA. Vanilla servers are great for pvp, but it has far to many cheaters. I myself play modded servers and NEVER have to deal with this.
The cars on modded servers work generally well compared to Vanilla cars/ WHY IS THAT?
The fact is, no matter how many people complain, The game is good and can be extremely fun. The community I belong to is awesome. (shout out to CWZ_ Coffee with Zombies) It has made all the diff. They have 5 servers on 4 maps and range between SUPER easy to OMG what did I get myself into.
In the end, the answer is obvious if you love DZ, SA is the way to go. BI may not give good content but the moders are fantastic, and IF you spend the time waying through the crap you will find a server that meets your needs. (you got a new PC? Use it.)
Standalone died the day Rocket & Bohemiem decided to use the same game engine used for Arma 2. Though, thanks to all the re-writing of script & code, we did end up with a wonderful upgrade of the engine which Arma 3 users have been enjoying for a while now.
DayZ SA will never be what it was envisioned to be. I bought it the day Early Access was announce, and to this day it is still the largest source of buyers remorse & resentment within my steam library. So much so, that I've had to hide it from even showing up in my library list. (I tried to have steam remove the game from my account completely, but for some reason it seems one can only do this with F2P games). Anyway, I digress...
My 2 cents: Move on to Arma 3 & dive into the mod scene there. There are DayZ mods in Arma 3 that make the standalone worth forgetting about. There's also a separate launcher you can get for free called the Arma 3 DayZ Launcher which you can use to easily find a server to play on & it will also go ahead & automatically grab & install all the mods you need to play on the server you choose.
All that, and I haven't even mentioned all the other mods for Arma 3 that aren't zombie themed, but still a blast to play. Hell, thanks to the mod scene, owning Arma 3 is like owning multiple games in your steam library.
Lastly, there's the honorary mention of 7 Days to Die. That game has brought back to me alot of what I miss about playing the old Arma 2 DayZ mod back in the day. Not all of what I miss, but certainly alot of it.
I pretty much find myself jumping between those 2 games when it comes to craving a zombie survival experience, while DayZ standalone continues to collect dust.
Edit: I also forgot to mention Hunt: Showdown. I've also been playing that alot to relive the adrenaline fueled moments of knowing you're about to loose everything when you're in a gun fight. So I guess that's 3 games I've been relying upon to replace the old Arma 2 DayZ experience. It's sad because I'm only now just realizing that it's taken a collection of 3 games to get back what I got out of a single older game & mods. Sad times man
FIFY
If you don't like it Steam support can delete the game from your library.
Funny though that you barely played it and know exactly what it is. 🤣
Mod still has the atmosphere but lacks the community that it used to have. you can still find some reliable servers but pop is small.
Play mod it needs a resurgence. fk all these other versions the first game is still the best one.
Even to this day I have seen many ytbers run with a wrong render resolution against their native resolution output which makes the game look blurry and hard to look at.
This is how I see it too. I have a real hard time knocking A2/Mod because I met so many great people and had such great fun. In fact, I have not had that SORT if fun in SA. But SA has its own "good points" as well. Despite the devs(BI)
When I left A2/Mod it was fantastic. The server I played on had roaming AI and AI missions. They were no pushovers either. I tried to play A2/mod about a year ago and just could not get back into it. For all the good and bad, I am SA now. But only because of the modders and not because of BI.
at least people died in the mod and vehicles actually worked.
38 hours is equivalent to "barely"? Don't think you thought that through very well my guy.
I'm pretty sure that at 2 hours shy of an average work week, it's more than enough to know "exactly" what a game is like & how it plays. You'd know that if you'd ever had a 40 hour work week instead of living at your pc in your underwear trolling forums & fanboying over the Standalone.
Go get some peanut butter for your dog to lick off your nuts. might cheer you up & bring you back to reality ;)
Or find out what it's like to work a 40 hour work week.
You worked 38 hours in the span of 7 years and you think you know everything about the job? A lot has changed here since 2013.
