S2FM is the Source 2 engine and SFM is Source 1 engine (and, as usual valve never makes a third one)
I don't think Valve would make an animation software and have it VR Only
That is exactly the reason, like IFM (for Portal) and SFM (for TF), S2FM (Dota2 ReBorn) and SFM2 (HL-Alyx) are game based. Transferring assets between them is difficult (to say the least) and tutorials on the process are few and in-between. Each have their own tool sets and they are geared for the game they are hosted by. Personally, I have only looked at either of them to see what can do what, but I much prefer the ages old standard SFM. It is a heck of a lot easier to port assets into than the newer Source2 SFM and I feel the interface is a lot more friendly and easier to learn, I also feel that you can do a lot more in it without it crashing than the newer versions. But that's just me.
EDIT: Found the problem leading to a scaling problem, it's due to the .FBX export format settings just being a little funny where you need to scale it down to something like 0.01 then export to have it show up as the correct size in Source 2.
On another front, while S2FM may be 64bit, it is indeed quite different from the first SFM in many ways. Some being for the better off (Like native 4K support and supporting up to 32 shadow lights instead of 8) and some being a bit cumbersome like the viewport having different controls mapped and the Element Viewer being a lot more watered down from the first SFM... Otherwise aside from that, the menu UI has more options in places and some slider options have been either renamed or just function slightly different here.
Regarding SFM2 (Half Life Alyx) is that what it's actually called or is that a typo? I always assumed it was always called Source 2 Filmmaker, unless it's just easier to call it Source Filmmaker 2? Pardon, I don't mean to sound picky here. Just want to know which is correct, or are both correct?
I've managed to port at least Young Link into Source 2 since last time making the Guide private. It's set to Public now after making some adjustments to it, but I wouldn't say it's a guarantee to work on every known model. Young Link actually originated from model resource[www.models-resource.com], not from SFM.
Here's the result I got: https://imgur.com/a/seuY6Si
I'm still learning though, not much online to go off by so most of this is just self-teach.
Btw Pte Jack, how are you doing? Been awhile since we last communicated. Hope you're well.
